Sharing insights on the growing use of semaglutide, its access, concerns around misuse, and why obesity treatment must always remain medically guided.

As awareness around medical weight management increases, it becomes equally important to ensure these treatments are used responsibly, with proper evaluation and supervision.

Grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this important conversation on safe and scientific obesity care.

No matter what you eat, someone always has something to say.

If you eat more, they comment.
If you eat less, they question it.
If you gain weight, they notice.
If you lose weight, they speculate.

But here’s what most people don’t understand.

Weight is not a public discussion topic. It is a complex medical and metabolic matter. Hormones, insulin resistance, stress, sleep, genetics and medical conditions influence body weight far more than casual observers realise.

And constant comments, even when said “jokingly”, can deeply affect confidence, eating patterns and mental health.

As a bariatric surgeon, I meet patients who have spent years feeling judged before they ever sought medical guidance. Many were struggling silently with metabolic issues, not lack of willpower.

Your body is not a debate.
Your health is not entertainment.

If you are trying to improve your health, do it for yourself. Not to silence people. Not to fit opinions. But to feel stronger, healthier and more in control.

And if you are struggling, please know this: you deserve support, not commentary.

A significant step forward in surgical care.

The launch of Agra’s first robotic surgery program marks the beginning of a new era in precision-driven, minimally invasive treatment. Robotic technology allows greater accuracy, better visualisation, and improved control during complex procedures, leading to safer outcomes and faster recovery for patients.

Such initiatives are important in making advanced surgical care more accessible and bringing the highest standards of treatment closer to patients.

Looking forward to contributing to this journey of innovation and improved patient care.

Have you ever felt like you tried every diet… lost weight… and then slowly gained it back again?

This cycle is known as weight cycling. And it is far more common than people realise.

When the body goes through repeated restrictive dieting, it starts activating survival mechanisms. The hormone ghrelin, which controls hunger, begins to rise. At the same time leptin, the hormone that signals fullness, becomes less effective.

The result is a body that feels hungrier, stores energy more efficiently, and resists long-term weight loss.

This is why many people feel frustrated. It is not always about discipline. Often, the biology of metabolism has changed.

Breaking the cycle requires a structured approach that focuses on hormones, metabolism, and long-term sustainability, rather than repeated short-term diets.

Because lasting weight management is not about fighting your body.
It is about understanding how it works.

Women often approach weight loss with the same advice given to everyone else. Eat less. Move more.

But female metabolism is not identical to male metabolism. Hormonal rhythms across the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and menopause all influence insulin response, fat distribution, and appetite regulation. This is why many women notice stubborn abdominal weight or sudden changes in metabolism at different life stages.

Conditions such as Polycystic O***y Syndrome and hormonal fluctuations can make weight management far more complex than simple calorie balance.

Real progress begins when weight is addressed scientifically, with attention to hormones, metabolic health, and long-term wellbeing.

This International Women’s Day is a reminder that caring for everyone else should not mean ignoring your own health. Metabolic strength is a foundation for energy, fertility, heart health, and overall quality of life.

Every year, on World Obesity Day, we talk about numbers. But behind every statistic is a person who has tried diets, workouts, home remedies, and still struggled.

Obesity is not a phase. It is not laziness. And it is certainly not just about eating too much.

What many people don’t realise is that once metabolic pathways are disrupted, the body actively resists weight loss. Insulin resistance increases fat storage. Hormonal imbalance affects hunger signals. Sleep deprivation alters appetite regulation. Stress drives cravings. Over time, the condition sustains itself.

That is why long-term obesity is associated with diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and fatty liver. The weight you see is often just the surface. The real impact is internal.

The most important step is not extreme dieting. It is proper evaluation. When obesity is treated scientifically, outcomes change dramatically.

This World Obesity Day, let us move away from blame and move toward medical understanding.

This conversation needs to shift.
For years, many people struggling with weight have blamed themselves before considering medical help. But weight gain is rarely just about willpower. Hormones, metabolism, insulin resistance, thyroid disorders, sleep issues and other medical conditions often play a significant role.

Seeking medical guidance for weight concerns should be as normal as consulting a doctor for blood pressure or diabetes. Science has evolved. From structured medical management to advanced robotic bariatric surgery, safe and effective options are available today with minimal downtime and sustainable results.

Consulting a specialist is not a sign of failure. It is an informed and responsible decision towards long-term metabolic health and better quality of life.

If you have been struggling silently, it may be time to explore the right medical approach.

Gall bladder health is often ignored until pain becomes severe. But in many cases, the process begins much earlier.

Metabolic health plays a significant role in how bile is produced, stored, and released. Long-standing obesity, insulin resistance, fatty liver, and rapid weight changes can quietly increase stress on the gall bladder and bile ducts. Over time, repeated inflammation and stone formation can raise the risk of serious complications.

The important message this awareness month is simple. Persistent digestive discomfort, bloating after fatty meals, upper abdominal pain, or unexplained symptoms should not be normalised.

Early diagnosis, structured weight management, and timely surgical care when required can significantly reduce long-term risk.

If you have recurring symptoms or a history of metabolic disorders, seeking medical evaluation at the right time can make all the difference.

R Madhavan’s 21-day weight loss looks impressive, but short-term results don’t always reflect long-term biology.

Yes, clean eating and mindful habits can reduce calories, improve insulin levels, and help lose water weight quickly. But for many, weight gain is influenced by hormones, insulin resistance, or metabolic issues.

Sustainable results come from understanding your body, not following trends. Lifestyle changes are the first step. And if they aren’t enough, medically guided options, including bariatric surgery, can safely help reset metabolism and support long-term health.

If long-term weight struggles are affecting your health and daily life, the right surgical guidance can help you move forward with confidence.
