The current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has seen a complete shift in the healthcare sector, where the primary focus and resources are being prioritized and used…

06/05/2020

As a group, COVID-19 patients with blood cancers, such as leukaemia and lymphoma, had the highest mortality rate: 37% (20 of 54 patients).

Currently, there is no evidence suggesting that cancer patients or cancer survivors who have previously undergone any cancer treatment are at a higher risk of getting COVID-19.

However, cancer treatment can weaken and compromise the immune system, which makes it harder to fight any infection. Although it may have been some time since you received any treatment, giving your immune system time to recover, recovery time varies from person to person. Therefore, you must still take the necessary precautions.

Therefore, it is crucial those who have experienced or are experiencing any health problems, should stay at home and limit any exposure to the virus.

Consult your doctor if you have any concerns.

17/04/2020

The American Cancer Society has suggested that no one should visit a health care facility during COVID-19. Routine cancer screenings will have to be scheduled for a later date due to the extreme circumstances we are currently facing.

People are being urged to stay at home and reduce any exposure to infection.

However, when things have settled, please remember to reschedule any screenings as they are essential to monitoring your health.

You can contact your health care provider for further information.
