🚨 Legal Metrology Update 2026 - Mandatory Country of Origin Filter for E-Commerce

The Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 have been amended through the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Amendment Rules, 2026 vide G.S.R. 128(E) dated 13th February 2026.

👉 What’s the Key Change?
A new sub-rule 6(10A) has been inserted:
Every e-commerce entity selling imported products must provide product listings in a searchable and sortable filter specifying the Country of Origin.

📅 Effective From:
1st July 2026

👉 Who is Impacted?
👉 E-commerce Marketplaces
👉 Online Retail Platforms
👉 Importers selling via online platforms
👉 Brands listing imported products digitally

⚖️ Why This Matters?
✔️ Enhances consumer transparency
✔️ Strengthens informed buying decisions
✔️ Increases compliance obligations for online sellers
✔️ Aligns digital listings with Legal Metrology disclosure requirements
