Man starts walking properly after 27 years of limping
In a complex case of total Hip Replacement, a 70 year old male who was suffering from hip pain since last 27 years, was only managing to walk with walker for many years, started walking properly after 27 years of limping.
Increased pain, limping and shortening of leg by 6cm made patient completely bed ridden from last 2 years. X-ray showed complete destruction of hip joint along with severe bone loss from acetabulum (cup). From the last one year patient was running from pillar to post for surgery but faced refusal from 5-6 centres because of complex surgery and compromised cardiac status ( ejection fraction about 25 percent) . He then consulted Dr Sandeep Jindal, Consultant Orthopaedics & Joint Replacement Surgeon at Alchemist hospital.
The Surgery was planned with the help of Dr Anjali, Sr. Consultant & Head Department of Radiology who helped in calculating the bone deficiency of acetabulum on CT, Cardiology support by Dr. Rohit Parti Sr. Consultant Interventional Cardiology and with Anesthesia team under Dr Akaljot, Sr. Consultant & Head Department of Anesthesia. Total hip replacement with use of jumbo acetabulum cup and long uncemented stem and reconstruction of acetabulum walls and bone grafts was done by Dr. Sandeep Jindal. After surgery equal limb length was achieved and patient started walking comfortably after 6 weeks of surgery.
