A stunning silence and hardly any outrage from the non medico people in the society has been a constant observation of all my fellow medicos.
Where are they?
The aunty who thrusts her report on my face in the lift, and i oblige?
The friend who calls to ask if xyz is doing the right treatment,
The neighbour whom i tell which drug to take to postpone her periods.
The mother whom i assure on the phone that her childs fever will settle.
The person whose joint pain i see casually at a party and suspect RA and tell him.
The diet advice i give to random people on the way?
The NEET advice i am asked about constantly which i freely give.
Every advice which is given to you as a doctor has been gained after years of hard work, but we give it freely as a service to society and humanity.
How many people have managed to get free IT returns advice from their CA outside lift?
How many have got advice from their lawyer at a party?
But we as a doctor in the name of service have always been available 24/7 , but the apathetic society, celebrities or common people nobody writes or speaks on behalf of doctors except maybe a few.
As doctors , sadly we have devalued our profession by making it feel that thanks to google every one has medical knowledge and doing the job of a doctor is not a big deal. It high time we behave like absolute professionals like CA or lawyers to redeem the respect of our profession .
