Placenta Previa: Debunking the Myths 🛡️✨
A "low-lying placenta" or "Placenta Previa" diagnosis often leads to immediate worry, but clinical clarity is the best remedy for anxiety. Understanding the difference between myths and medical facts is essential for a safe pregnancy journey.

The Real Facts Behind the Labels:
Early Findings are Normal: A low-lying placenta in the first trimester is a common finding; as your uterus expands, the placenta typically "migrates" higher.

Previa vs. Low-Lying: They aren't the same—"Low-lying" means the placenta is near the cervix, while "Previa" means it completely covers the internal opening.

TVS is Safe: When performed professionally, a Transvaginal Ultrasound (TVS) is 100% safe and actually provides the most precise measurements of placental distance.

Asymptomatic Cases: While bleeding is a known symptom, many patients are completely asymptomatic and are only diagnosed during routine surveillance.

In fetal medicine, precision matters more than a label. At Sigma Ultrasound Centre, we provide the specialized approach necessary for informed and safe care.

"How many scans do I really need?" is the first question every twin parent asks. 🤰👶👶

The answer depends entirely on whether your babies share a placenta or have their own. In a twin pregnancy, the scanning schedule isn't just about seeing the babies—it's a clinical roadmap for their safety.

For DC Twins (separate placentas), a 4-week interval is usually sufficient to track growth. However, for MC Twins (shared placenta), the risk of vascular shifts means we must see you every 2 weeks from the 16th week onwards.

At Sigma Ultrasound Centre, we believe that surprises are for birthdays, not for the delivery room. Meticulous scheduling is how we provide the Diagnostic Certainty you need for a healthy delivery. 🛡️🎁

Growth monitoring in twins is about more than just the numbers on a scale. 🤰👶👶

When it comes to twins, many parents focus solely on "estimated fetal weight," but in fetal medicine, weight is just one part of the story. Our priority is monitoring proportional growth to ensure both babies are developing in balance.

Beyond the weight, we track three critical parameters:
1️⃣HC (Head Circumference): Assessing neurological development and symmetry.
2️⃣AC (Abdominal Circumference): A key indicator of how well each baby is receiving nutrients.
3️⃣FL (Femur Length): Monitoring bone growth and overall stature.
While a slight weight difference is common, a growing gap can be an early sign of sFGR (Selective Fetal Growth Restriction). Frequent, specialized surveillance is the only way to catch these shifts early and ensure a safe journey for both babies.

At Sigma Ultrasound Centre, we provide the expertise and diagnostic certainty your "Double Blessing" deserves.
Because surprises are for birthdays, not the delivery room. 🛡️🎁

In a twin pregnancy, amniotic fluid is our most reliable "early warning system."
For twins sharing a placenta, fluid levels reflect the delicate balance of blood flow between the two babies. Because these babies share vascular connections, even a subtle shift in circulation can cause one twin to have excess fluid while the other has too little.
This is often the first clinical sign of Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS). By meticulously checking fluid levels at every visit, we ensure Diagnostic Certainty and catch any changes while we still have a "Window of Opportunity" for care.
At Sigma Ultrasound Centre, we believe surprises are for birthdays, not for the delivery room.

Why Your Pregnancy Dates Might Not Match

If your ultrasound shows a different age than your calendar, don't panic. This discrepancy is common and usually has a simple scientific explanation.
Every woman’s cycle and ovulation timing is unique, meaning the Last Menstrual Period (LMP) isn't always a reliable guide. For a precise timeline, we perform a Dating Scan to calculate the pregnancy age based on the baby’s actual size.

Why accurate dating is critical:
1️⃣Correct Timing: It ensures all future screenings and blood tests are scheduled at the exact right moment.
2️⃣Growth Tracking: Accurate dates are the only way to confirm your baby is developing at a healthy pace.
3️⃣Clinical Clarity: It replaces guesswork with diagnostic certainty, avoiding unnecessary stress.

Get the dating right, start the pregnancy right. 🛡️

Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) Awareness Week | February 7–14

Heart health doesn't start at birth—it starts in the womb. 1 in 100 babies is born with a heart defect, making early screening a clinical priority.
This week, we are highlighting the Fetal Echo—a specialized "head-to-toe" audit of the baby’s heart.
Why the Fetal Echo matters:
1️⃣ Total Clarity: It checks every valve, chamber, and vessel for structural issues.
2️⃣ Perfect Timing: Best performed between 18–22 weeks for maximum accuracy.
3️⃣ Control, Not Panic: Identifying issues early allows doctors to prepare life-saving care before delivery.
4️⃣ No Surprises: Because surprises are good for birthdays, but not for the delivery room.

It is not just about the machine—it is about the eyes behind it. At Sigma Ultrasound Centre, we provide the diagnostic certainty your baby’s heart deserves.
