Text Neck” Explained – What Your Phone Is Doing to Your Neck

This image powerfully shows how head position directly multiplies the load on your cervical spine. The human head weighs about 4–5 kg in neutral posture, but as the head tilts forward, the effective load on the neck increases dramatically.

🟢 0° – Neutral Head Position (≈ 5 kg)

When your ears are aligned over your shoulders, the cervical spine carries only the true weight of the head. Muscles work efficiently, discs are evenly loaded, and stress on joints is minimal. This is the safest and most energy-efficient posture.

🧠 Why This Matters

The neck is designed for mobility, not sustained load. Holding the head forward for long periods causes cumulative micro-stress that builds silently over time. This is why neck pain often appears gradually rather than suddenly.

CERVICAL SPONDYLOSIS

This condition is a common cause of most cervical pains. It is characterized by wear and tear of the cushion located between the vertebrae bones.
This cushion is the articular cartilage, a structure that is found in between two vertebrae bones.

This function of this structure is to provide cushion, nourishment, and to serve as a shock absorber. The cushion prevents direct contact of the two vertebrae bodies.

Physiotherapy will be of greater help to victims with cervical spondylosis. Physiotherapy protocols can be of greater help to minimize most of the associated symptoms of cervical spondylosis.

INTERMITTENT CLAUDICATION:

Intermittent Claudication is pain and/or cramping in the lower leg due to inadequate blood flow to the muscles.

It refers to an aching pain in your legs when you walk or exercise that goes away when you rest.

Your pain can be severe enough to limit how much you walk or exercise. Resting for 10 minutes relieves the pain. That’s because your resting muscles need less blood flow.

Intermittent claudication is more common in men than in women. The condition affects 1% to 2% of the population under 60 years of age, increasing in incidence with age, to affect over 18% of persons over 70 years of age, according to the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Treatment for intermittent claudication includes leg rest, over-the-counter or prescription painkillers, physical therapy, and, in some cases, surgery. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
