Goiter or multinodular goiter or colloid goiter is an abnormal condition of thyroid gland. In such conditions, whole of the thyroid gland or part of the thyroid gland is involved.
Such conditions are difficult to treat by medicines and generally require surgery in the form of total thyroidectomy or hemithyroidectomy.
Conventionally these surgeries were performed by open technique, but with advanced equipments, we can also perform these surgeries endoscopically.
The advantages of endoscopic Surgery are
1) minimally invasive
2) rapid recovery
3) early return to work
4) minimal hospital stay
5) minimal chances of wound infection
6) better cosmesis than open Surgery
Following complications can occur if you do not treat such conditions
1) infection
2) haemorrhage (bleeding)
3) difficulty in swallowing
4) difficulty in breathing
5) change of voice
6) increase in size of swelling
