POOC 2025 was a grand success, attended by over 350 orthopedic surgeons from across India. The conference featured renowned faculties including Dr. John Ebnezar, Dr. L. Prakash, and Dr. Parag Sancheti, who shared invaluable insights into office orthopedics and joint preservation. I had the privilege to conduct a masterclass on radiofrequency in orthopedics and chair several scientific sessions that encouraged vibrant academic exchange. The event truly highlighted innovation and collaboration in orthopedic practice. Special thanks to Dr. Kiran Shete for the opportunity to be part of this remarkable academic journey.

Certainly! Bone health is a vital aspect of overall health, especially for women over 30, as they become more susceptible to silent risk factors that can lead to osteoporosis and fractures later in life. Here are some key points to consider:

Silent Risk Factors for Bone Health in Women After 30:

1. Hormonal Changes: Decreased estrogen levels after 30 can accelerate bone loss, particularly in women approaching menopause.

2. Nutritional Deficiencies: Insufficient intake of calcium, vitamin D, magnesium, and other nutrients essential for bone strength.

3. Sedentary Lifestyle: Lack of weight-bearing and muscle-strengthening exercises can weaken bones over time.

4. Chronic Medical Conditions: Conditions like thyroid disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or gastrointestinal diseases can impair bone density.

5. Medications: Long-term use of corticosteroids or certain other drugs may adversely affect bone health.

6. Lifestyle Factors: Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can decrease bone density.

7. Genetics: Family history can influence susceptibility to osteoporosis.

Insurance and Prevention:

- Bone Density Screening: Many health insurance plans cover bone density tests (DEXA scans) for women over 30, especially if they have risk factors.

- Preventive Measures: Insurance may also cover nutritional counseling, vitamin D and calcium supplements, and lifestyle programs aimed at improving bone health.

- Early Intervention: Identifying and managing silent risk factors early can prevent fractures and maintain quality of life.

Recommendations:

- Regular Check-Ups: Discuss your bone health risk with your healthcare provider.

- Healthy Lifestyle: Incorporate weight-bearing exercises, balanced diet rich in calcium and vitamin D, and avoid smoking and excessive alcohol.

- Monitor Medications: Review any medications with your doctor that might impact bone health.

Understanding these silent risk factors and proactively managing them can significantly reduce the risk

What really happens when knee pain begins?

As we age, the cartilage in our knees — which acts like a natural shock absorber — slowly starts to wear down. This thinning cartilage reduces joint cushioning, leading to stiffness, discomfort, and eventually, chronic knee pain.

Dr. Amit Kale explains how age-related changes in your knees can cause lasting issues.

Gout is a form of arthritis that results from the buildup of uric acid crystals in the joints, often causing severe pain and inflammation. Diet plays a crucial role in managing gout because certain foods can either increase or decrease uric acid levels in the blood. Here's an overview of a gout-friendly diet:

Foods to Avoid:

1. Purine-Rich Foods: Purines are compounds found in many foods that break down into uric acid. High-purine foods should be limited or avoided:

Red meats: Beef, lamb, and pork

Organ meats: Liver, kidneys, and sweetbreads

Shellfish and certain fish: Sardines, anchovies, mackerel, herring, and scallops

Alcohol: Especially beer, which is high in purines, and liquor.

2. Sugary Foods and Drinks: Excessive sugar, particularly fructose, can lead to higher uric acid levels. Avoid sugary sodas, fruit juices, and processed foods.

3. Processed Foods: Foods high in unhealthy fats, such as fried foods, processed snacks, and pastries, can worsen inflammation.

Foods to Include:

1. Low-Purine Proteins:

Lean meats and poultry: Skinless chicken, turkey, and lean cuts of meat.

Plant-based proteins: Legumes (lentils, beans, chickpeas), tofu, and quinoa.

Dairy products: Low-fat or fat-free milk, yogurt, and cheese help lower uric acid levels.

2. Fruits and Vegetables:

Cherries: These have been shown to lower uric
