In Ayurveda, fasting (Upavasa) is not about deprivation. It is about giving your digestive fire (Agni) time to rest and rejuvenate.

When Agni weakens, undigested food turns into toxins (Ama), leading to fatigue, heaviness, and imbalance. Fasting helps rekindle that inner fire and restore equilibrium.

How to Fast : Begin gently by skipping one meal or choosing light, warm foods such as moong soup, vegetable broth, or fruit. Stay hydrated with warm water or herbal teas to help flush out toxins.

Listen to your body and end the fast if you feel weak, dizzy, or anxious.Break your fast mindfully with freshly cooked, light meals.

How Often Once a week for most body types. Once every fifteen days during seasonal transitions. Avoid fasting when unwell, pregnant, or feeling extremely fatigued.

Dos and Don’ts Do fast according to your Prakriti (body type). Kapha types can manage slightly longer fasts. Pitta types need shorter, gentler fasts. Vata types should avoid prolonged fasting altogether.

Do not overexert, skip hydration, or fast under emotional stress, as this can aggravate Vata and weaken Agni.
