Deep Breathing

1-Get comfortable.
You can lie on your back in bed or on the floor with a pillow under your head and knees.
Else sit in a relaxed back supported position.
2-Breathe in through your nose. Let your belly fill with air.(Place one hand on your belly.As you breathe in, feel your belly rise.)
3-Breathe out through your nose.(Feel your hand sinking in with the belly)
Repeat 5-10 times

TIPS FOR A HEALTHY KNEE

1. Reduce body weight – Increasing will increase your risk of injuries and osteoarthritis.

2. Keep Moving – Walking or playing a sport to keep yourself fit & agile.

3. Stretch & Strengthen - Concentrate on balance & posture enhancing exercises.

4. Practice perfection – Lifting weights, running or any activity do them in proper way.

5. Ensure Protection - Wear proper protection gears that can help avoid knee injuries.

6.Posture-Maintain a good posture while sitting, standing and working.

7.Respect and listen to your body – When it really hurts always take a BREAK.

Knee pain-

No matter what age u r, these days lot of us complain of pain in the knee. Very young people too have knee pain in basic functional activities.

Causes:
-major pain is due to osteoarthritis of knee(vry common in women) wear and tear of knee joint
-overweight
-bad footwear or foot posture
-lack of Vit D and Calcium

Signs:
-swelling around the knee
-crackling sound while bending the knee
-Difficulty in stair climbing (up/down)
-pain at knee joint after sitting for long, driving a car, walking on plain surface

Tips for relief :
-icing (yes remember icing is ur best remedy! NO HOT WATER in knee pain)
-check ur vit D and calcium levels. Also have substances rich in vit B12, they help in absorption of calcium. Have a healthy diet.
-its is very very important to exercises when u have knee pain. U need to strengthen ur knees coz they are the ones that bear ur body weight (see pic for reference)
-weight loss if u r over weight
- Choose a comfortable n supportive footware.Soles should not to b too soft or too hard.Natural Foot arch should be supported
-meet a physio, get ur foot posture checked. That affects knee.
-Also seek advice on wearing knee supports. It imp to understand when to wear a knee support and when not 🙂

Using a backpack allows a child to carry a number of schoolbooks and items in a practical way, distributing the heavy load across the strong back and shoulder muscles. The risk, however, is overload, which can strain the back, neck, or shoulders.
The back will compensate for any load applied to it for an extended period of time. A heavy weight carried in backpacks can:
• Distort the natural curves in the middle and lower backs, causing muscle strain and irritation to the spine joints and the rib cage
• Lead to rounding of the shoulders
• Cause a person to lean forward, reducing balance and making it easier to fall.

Prevention and Cure-
• Parents should check that kids wear the backpacks on both shoulders
• Educate and encourage children to maintain a good and straight posture while sitting,standing,reading and writing.
• Outdoor activities and games must be made compulsory daily.
• Light stretching and flexibility exercises can be taught.

Text Neck-
It is a term used to describe neck pain caused by looking down at your mobile,tablet,laptop or other devices constantly for a long time at a stretch.

Signs & symptoms-
-Chronic headache
-Soreness in neck/upper back
-Tingling/Numbness/Pain in upper extremities
-Tighteness across Shoulders
-Pain in neck,back,shoulders,arms,hands,fingers,wrists and elbows
-Postural changes

Prevention-
-Hold phone or devices at eye level as much as possible.
-Avoid looking down for extended period of time.
-Take frequent breaks from mobile/laptop use (every 20-30 mins)
-Take mini walks & do neck and upper back stretches in your breaks.
-Make sure you sit in good & supported posture.

Some stretches to relieve Text Neck-

-Bending neck backwards.
-Turning head side to side.
-Bending head on either sides.
-Shoulder shruggs.
