I-SHARE Foundation is a Pune-based not-for-profit organization formed with a mission to Innovate Solutions for Healthcare Access Research and Education. It was formed by three friends - Dr. Nikhil Phadke (Molecular Geneticist), Dr. Pranjali Gadgil (Breast Cancer Surgeon) and Dr. Meetali Kolhatkar Bidaye (Nephrologist) - to address gaps in the healthcare system in the areas of (i) access to healthcare and allied resources for patients and their families, (ii) targeted translational research in healthcare, and (iii) education and awareness about healthcare and recent advances for doctors, patients, students, policy-makers and the general public, and the breaking down of silos between areas in medicine, science and technology to enable a truly cross-disciplinary approach to healthcare.

Improving Healthcare Access through Availability Affordability Accessibility

I-SHARE is committed to improving healthcare access in India and is working on all the three fronts:
1. Availability of services
2. Free or Subsidised medicines and diagnostic tests
3. Awareness and education

Our "Cervical Cancer Screening Project" is spreading awareness about cervical cancer and also screening women for cervical cancer by HPV DNA test free of cost.
The "Immunosuppressants Support Program" helps financially vulnerable kidney transplant patients to procure high cost medicines and monitors them for compliance with their drug therapy.
The "Young Mothers Breast Cancer Fund" is providing financial assistance to young women detected with breast cancer who otherwise would not have sought medical care.

Positive outcome of a kidney transplant amongst other factors depends upon patient's adherence to recommended treatment regimen. Patient nonadherence can be a pervasive threat to his or her health and wellbeing.

Our Immunosuppressant Support Program, Maadhyam, focuses on improving patient compliance through counseling and monitoring and by offering medicines at subsidized costs.

Today is World Kidney Day. I-SHARE Foundation would like to pledge its commitment to raising awareness of the importance of kidney health by announcing the launch of “Maadhyam”, our new Immunosuppressants Support Program for financially vulnerable kidney transplant patients.

Drugs suppressing immunity (immunosuppressants) are critical during the transplantation process; they allow the transplanted organ to be accepted by the body of the recipient by preventing reactions that lead to rejection. Unfortunately, nearly 1 in 4 patients do not comply with prescribed post-transplant immunosuppressant regimens. This often leads to rejection of the transplanted kidney. As many as 60% of late acute rejections and 35% of graft loss are due to non-adherence to medication.

The primary reason for this patient non-compliance is the high cost of these immunosuppressants (₹15,000 -₹20,000 per month) coupled with the need for lifelong treatment.
The goal of I-SHARE Foundation’s Immunosuppressants Support Program is to improve treatment outcomes of financially vulnerable post-transplant patients. This will be achieved primarily by subsidizing the high cost of their immunosuppressant therapy and by ensuring that they comply with their prescribed therapy during the subsidy period. As part of this program, patients will also be educated and provided counseling to improve their compliance with the therapy. Other forms of support will also be used to assist patients plan for and become self-reliant for funding their immunosuppressant therapy post the subsidy period.

“Maadhyam”, the name of the program signifies its objective of being a medium of assistance and financial support. I-SHARE Foundation is grateful to Bellwether Capital Pvt. Ltd. (BCPL) who have generously donated Rs. 10 lakhs from their CSR funds to get this program off the ground.

This International Women's Day, let us remind ourselves that it’s on each of us to help create a gender equal world.
An equal world is an enabled world.
Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day.
We can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate diversity.

We can all choose to be .

Happy Women's Day!
