Transition to teenage and early adulthood.
This is a stormy period during our growth and development.

To understand our bodily changes and internal ques is even harder for a child with ASD and for those with Sensory- processing issues.

In order to achieve the physiologically balanced state these children need extra efforts.First to understand what they are sensing within their body and connect it to the brain.

In this process they may need help in understanding to relate, reset and co regulate.

https://fb.watch/9tLSu4Bfwq/ Love the way Dr. Mona has highlighted the need to shift our focus to look at challenging behaviours & while considering ABA as treatment approach.

Need to understand the child's behaviour as a window of opportunity look at his underlying neural system ,emotional, senory requirements.

"Why is my son Flapping his hand?" " Why is she walking on toes?" "I get annoyed when he runs away from crowded places"
Crying ,hitting , hyperactivity are behaviours of children make caregivers and parents more vulnerable to stress and anxiety
What parents and caregivers overlook generally is these are just behaviours at the surfaces.
These are symptoms to what lies beneath.
Its important to understand neurobiology of these behaviour. These behaviours might be childs attempt to satisfy demands of his nervous system. His spinning might be effort to upregulate himself or might be attempt to get sense of where his body is in space.
Thats where therapist& parents job lies, to be like detective and understand kid's underlying needs.

Child's behaviour changes based on his/her interaction with environment , person or task at hand. Labelling kids(such as ADD,ADHD,ASD, Sensory defensive) is easy but clinical deductions is what matters most in helping kids out.

It can only happen when we stay attune to child's cues, make him feel safe and connected.

Looking forward for tomorrow's talk with parents & Thank you for hosting Prachi.
