As a school kid, I was obese and unable to participate in sports or games. I was teased and made fun of due to my physical appearance. It was only later in College that I got into Fitness and decided to transform my lifestyle and steer towards a healthier and fitter body. Since then, I’ve always been a fitness and exercise enthusiast. I was introduced to Yoga whilst in school but only started practicing seriously much later. I am lucky to have practiced with several prominent Yoga teachers being exposed to different styles of Yoga. I have also practiced at the BKS Iyengar Institute Pune for several years, during which I met my mentor and teacher Malcum Marolia, a complete Yoga teacher who took my practice to another level. He was a class apart. His attention to detail, the methodology of teaching was something else. I learnt a lot from him about Yoga and also the smaller finer details that is so very relevant. I was lucky to have met Dr Renu Mahtani, founder of Param Yoga. A dynamic, charming and extremely knowledgeable person who brought me on board the Param Yoga family. It was very intriguing to work with someone having a plethora of medical experience with application in Yoga and Alternative Medicine. She gave me a platform to help share my knowledge to assist students to achieve their fitness goals. And there started my journey………. Although prepared and certified in a variety of bodies of knowledge comprising Yoga, Medical Yoga, Ayurveda, Naturopathy, Exercise Science, Sports Nutrition, Sports Supplementation, my main work of interest remains in applied kinesiology and biomechanics combining the ancient science of Yoga & Ayurveda with modern Exercise Science. Both together work in tandem beautifully and synergistically to achieve any health or fitness goal. They relate to program design and corrective exercise; and athletic performance enhancement. I also work with Special Population and create exercise programs that help people heal injuries and eliminate pain, so they can go back to living a full, active, healthy life. I quickly discovered that many of the traditional exercise and treatment programs weren’t producing the results I wanted, so I took it upon myself to get the right knowledge, scour the medical research, and do hands-on testing, so I could ACTUALLY help my clients / students get better. With the advent of the Internet, I saw a terrific opportunity to offer and deliver my programs to many more people, so they too could finally get relief from pain, heal their injuries, and get back to the lives they enjoy. I’m all about finding what works… and unfortunately, a lot of the advice out there, even from trained professionals and reputable sources… does NOT work!!! People get the best results when they follow a program that’s been properly designed. The best programs include only the exercises that are necessary, instructions for how to perform them properly, the proper order in which to perform them. Not doing all the steps, or performing them in the wrong order, or taking too little rest, or too much, can throw you off course, and sometimes even make things worse! I’ve learned that understanding the CAUSE of injuries and painful conditions can help heal and prevent them. Simply becoming aware, and then making tiny adjustments, can actually result in a much higher quality of life for many people. I believe it is not important how deep you go into a yoga asana, but instead that you focus on performing the yoga pose correctly with proper breath. If a yoga asana is completely contraindicated, there are always modified versions and alternatives that will allow you to stretch at your own pace and depth, making it accessible to all. Despite seeing a boom in the Fitness industry, there still stands a vacuum of genuine Fitness professionals. Staggering numbers establish a need for fitness professionals to have the knowledge and skills to work with their clients to prevent injury and keep them coming back to achieve their fitness goals. Almost every person has some sort of muscular dysfunction or imbalance that can lead to pain and injury. A corrective exercise by its simplest definition is a movement or exercise chosen to correct a specific dysfunction. There are plenty of exercises that seem to have universal utility. If You Don’t Know Anatomy, You Can’t Give Correctives
CORRECT THE CAUSE, NOT THE COMPENSATION

I have 25 years’ experience in the Health & Fitness Industry, working directly with clients and students. I’ve conducted several personal training sessions, conduct talks & workshops on Health & Fitness, do corporate sessions for Yoga, and soon to launch video content on the social media platform. I am extremely passionate about creating awareness and debunking so called FITNESS MYTHS that exists commonly among general population. I am constantly updating myself studying and getting certified. I believe the learning process must go on and is never ending. The knowledge I acquire is the knowledge I will share tomorrow!!! Yoga By Aakaash
