GREEN TEA

GREEN TEA Weight loss. Taking a specific green tea extract (EGCG) seems to help moderately overweight people lose weight.

But green tea doesn’t help people keep the weight off.

1. Contains plant-based antioxidant compounds
Green tea contains a type of polyphenol called a catechin. Catechins are antioxidants that help prevent cell damage and provideTrusted Source other health benefits.

The most well-known and abundant catechin in green tea is epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), which researchTrusted Source has found may be involved in improving various health conditions or markers of disease.

To understand why, we first have to look at where certain teas come from. All varieties of tea are first brewed from the dried leaves of the Camellia Sinesis bush and can be divided into four different categories based on how oxidized they are. White tea is made from unoxidized buds, whereas oolong tea stems from particularly oxidized leaves, and black tea is made when completely oxidized leaves are steeped in hot water. Green tea, on the other hand, is made with unoxidized tea leaves — all of these varieties contain antioxidants, chiefly flavonoids, a group of plant-based chemicals that have been shown to reduce coronary inflammation. How you choose to brew your tea — and the kind of tea you've chosen to brew — can play a role in its final antioxidant counts. Green tea, however, has been shown to naturally contain the highest amount of flavonoids of the four varieties,

Green tea contains an active antioxidant compound, Catechins. One of the catechins, known as Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) helps to boost metabolism and burn fat. EGCG helps to mobilize the fat by inhibiting an enzyme that breaks down a hormone called norepinephrine (1). This increases the level of norepinephrine. Now, norepinephrine signals the fat cells to break down fat. Green tea also contains a generous amount of caffeine that stimulates weight loss.

Now that you have a fair idea of how this wonder drink exactly does let’s take a peek into my day green tea diet plan.

What Is The Nutritional Profile Of Green Tea?
Unsweetened brewed green tea has zero calories. If you are a calorie conscious individual, that’s simply powerful. Green tea contains flavonols and catechins (a type of polyphenols) that offer many great benefits. The catechins in green tea are:

epicatechin
epigallocatechin
gallocatechin
gallate derivatives
The most potent compound in green tea is EGCG, also known as epigallocatechin-3-gallate. It is what makes green tea, green tea. It has numerous benefits, some of which include enhanced metabolic rate and body weight regulation.

Other important compounds in green tea include:

quercetin
linoleic acid
aginenin
methylxanthines (caffeine, theopylline, and theobromine)
numerous amino acids and enzymes (about 20 percent of the leaves are taken up by proteins)
carbohydrates (cellulose, pectins, glucose, sucrose, and fructose)
trace amounts of minerals like magnesium, calcium, manganese, iron, chromium, copper, and zinc
trace amounts of carotenoids
lactones and hydrocarbons, esters, and aldehydes (all of which are volatile compounds)
We saw the powerful constituents of green tea. Now let’s see what these constituents do and how they benefit us.
