While most parents mark exam season by celebrating their children's academic successes, a couple in Karnataka took a different approach. In a show of unconditional support, they hosted a party to celebrate their son’s failure in the Class 10 board exams — not to glorify the result, but to acknowledge his sincere efforts. Abhishek Cholachagudda, a student of Basaveshwar English Medium School in Bagalkot, Karnataka, scored only 200 out of 600 marks (around 32%) and failed in all six subjects.

In her new Khaleej Times op-ed, Hend Al Otaiba writes, “To empower women to break free from cycles of abuse, we must think about what comes after the first step of getting them to safety.”

While serving as the UAE’s Ambassador to France, she launched an initiative that brought survivors of domestic violence from French shelters to a place of healing in Abu Dhabi.

Now back in the UAE, she continues that work - building regional partnerships, including with Sayyida Basma Al Said of Oman, to support long-term mental health and recovery.

This is diplomacy rooted in empathy, and leadership driven by purpose.
