MIMER Medical College commemorated the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram with a collective rendition at 9:30 AM in the GJ Ghaisas Auditorium, bringing together students, faculty, and non-teaching staff in tribute to the national song.
The poem Vande Mataram, composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, was first published on 7 November 1875 in the literary journal Bangadarshan and was later incorporated into his novel Anandamath. On 24 January 1950, the song was declared the “National Song” of India by the Constituent Assembly.
Vande Mataram translates roughly to “I bow to thee, Mother”, referring to the motherland. It is far more than a song—it is a call to devotion, a source of energy, a vision, and a pledge. It evokes reverence for Mother India, connects us to our rich history, strengthens our confidence in the present, and inspires courage for the future.
