Diabetes and Fruits 🍇

Fruits are healthy - but in diabetes, the type, portion, and timing of fruit matter.

Some fruits contain a higher natural sugar load or have a higher glycemic index, which means they can raise blood sugar more quickly, especially when eaten alone or in large quantities.

Fruits that may need more caution and portion control in diabetes include:
1) Ripe banana
2) Mango
3) Chikoo (sapota)
4) Grapes
5) Watermelon

This does not mean these fruits are "bad" or must be completely avoided. It means they should be eaten in moderation, preferably with meals, and with awareness of overall carbohydrate intake.

In diabetes management, it's not just about eating healthy foods — it's about understanding how your body responds to them.
Small choices in portion and timing can make a big difference in keeping blood sugars stable.

Pityriasis alba is a common, harmless skin condition seen mostly in children and young adults.

It appears as light-colored patches, usually on the face, and is often associated with dry skin or mild eczema.

These patches are not caused by infection, and the condition is not contagious.

Sun exposure can make the patches look more noticeable, because the surrounding skin tans while the affected areas do not — but this does not mean the condition is worsening.

Pityriasis alba usually improves gradually with time, proper moisturisation, and gentle skin care.
The most important part of management is reassurance and patience, especially for parents.

Pov: The Papaya Magic.

Now where was this papaya for the last 3 months?

Papaya is traditionally believed to help induce periods, especially when taken raw or semi-ripe.

This belief comes from the fact that raw papaya contains compounds like papain and phyto-estrogen-like substances, which are thought to have a mild uterine-stimulating and warming effect on the body.
In women who have a slightly delayed cycle or no major hormonal imbalance, eating raw papaya may sometimes coincide with the onset of periods. However, this does not mean papaya is regulating hormones or inducing ovulation.

In conditions like PCOS, the problem is not simply a delayed period - it is a complex hormonal disorder involving anovulation, insulin resistance, and disrupted estrogen-progesterone balance.

Papaya does not correct these underlying mechanisms.
Papaya does not increase estrogen production in a therapeutic or controlled way, nor does it restore ovulation or cycle regularity in PCOS.

So while papaya may be blamed or credited for the timing of bleeding, it does not treat the cause of amenorrhea or PCOS-related irregular cycles.

That is why periods returning after starting treatment are a result of hormonal regulation, not a fruit eaten alongside it.

Pica is a condition where a person feels a strong urge to eat non-food substances such as chalk, slate pencils, fagt, ice, or even paper.
It is most commonly seen in women and children, and is often linked to iron deficiency, vitamin B12 or folate deficiency, zinc deficiency, pregnancy-related nutritional changes, poor diet, and sometimes stress or psychological factors.

These cravings are not simply habits - they are often the body's way of indicating that something is lacking internally.

If ignored, pica can affect digestion, teeth, and overall health, so recognising it early is important.
With the right evaluation and correction, this condition can be managed effectively.

🔷Vitamin B12
deficiency can show up in multiple ways and is often missed in the early stages.🔷

Common signs include:
✅ Recurrent mouth ulcers
✅ Easy tiredness and persistent fatigue
✅ Tingling or numbness in hands and feet
✅ Early greying of hair
✅ Dark pigmentation around knuckles and elbows
✅ Poor concentration / brain fog

Vitamin B12 plays an important role in nerve health, red blood cell formation, and overall cellular function.
When levels are low, these symptoms may appear gradually and are often ignored.
Because symptoms can overlap with other conditions, blood testing is the most reliable way to confirm vitamin B12 deficiency.
Early identification helps prevent progression and long-term complications.

🧑‍🦰👩🏻‍🦰Excessive hair
fall is one of the most common complaints I see in my clinic today.
While some daily hair shedding is normal, persistent or excessive hair fall usually points towards an underlying cause.

✅ Common reasons behind hair fall include:
1) Iron deficiency
2) low ferritin levels
3) vitamin B12 or vitamin D deficiency
4) thyroid imbalance
5) hormonal changes
6) chronic stress
7) recent illness
8) weight loss
9) overall nutritional gaps

In many cases, hair fall is a symptom rather than the problem itself.
Instead of focusing only on external products like shampoos, oils, or serums, it is important to look internally and identify what the body may be lacking.

Omega-3 fatty acids are not a single nutrient — they exist in different forms, mainly ALA, EPA, and DHA.
Understanding where each form comes from is important, especially in vegetarian diets.

🔷ALA (alpha-linolenic acid) is the primary omega-3
found in plant-based foods.
The body can convert ALA into EPA and DHA, but this conversion is limited and varies between individuals.

🔷EPA and DHA are the biologically active omega-3 forms commonly found in marine sources like fish and fish oil, and are strongly associated with heart, brain, and anti-inflammatory benefits.

🔷In vegetarian diets, omega-3 intake therefore relies mainly on ALA-rich plant foods.
Flaxseeds are one of the richest plant sources of
ALA and are widely used in vegetarian nutrition for omega-3 support.

🌱Chia seeds provide ALA along with dietary fiber, supporting both omega-3 intake and digestive health.

🌱Walnuts contribute ALA and healthy fats and are commonly included in balanced vegetarian diets.

🌱Soybeans and soy-based foods such as tofu and tempeh provide ALA along with high-quality plant protein.

🌱 Kidney beans and other pulses contribute small amounts of ALA as part of a whole-food, plant-based diet.
