The following are some of the urgent signs that require someone to make an appointment with us as soon as possible. We can address the issue and determine the most effective treatment method.

A toothache that will not go away is an urgent sign that something is definitely wrong. Since there are a variety of potential causes to a toothache, visiting us is crucial to receive the proper treatment.

You must not ignore jaw issues that can also cause headaches. If the jaw pain seems to cause ongoing headaches, then the two are connected and need treatment.

If the gums bleed every time someone brushes their teeth or flosses, it is a sign of potential gum disease. In some cases, people who floss after several months of not flossing may find a small amount of blood. If the blood only lasts a day or two, then it is nothing to worry about. If the blood continues for longer, then give us a call.

If you crack or chip a tooth, then you need to see a dentist as soon as possible. The sooner you seek treatment, the better chance you have of successful tooth repair.

If one of your permanent teeth is extremely loose or someone accidentally knocks it out of your mouth during an activity, seek treatment as soon as possible.

Fillings and crowns protect teeth from infection and other issues. When they are loose or lost, the individual needs to replace them as soon as possible to continue protecting the tooth.

An abscessed tooth or extreme swelling are signs of infection and require a visit to the dentist for treatment.

Constant food lodgment in teeth is another reason one should visit a dentist. It can lead to cavities if ignored.

A nutritious, well-balanced diet and lots of water is the key foundation of good dental health. Apart from knowing the good and bad foods for your teeth and gums, it is important to follow good dental hygiene practices such as brushing teeth regularly at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing at least once a day and making sure to visit your dentist for a regular checkup and cleaning twice in a year.

Dairy – When eaten in the right amounts, dairy including cheese, milk and yogurts can help build stronger teeth. Dairy products have calcium, Vitamin D, phosphorus and whey protein that help restore enamel, provide strength and protect teeth from decay and erosion.

Fruits and Vegetables – Fresh fruits and vegetables are not only good for overall health but also provide key vitamins for healthy teeth and gums.

Nuts – Many of us eat nuts for protein and good cholesterol (HDL), but are nuts good for teeth and gums? Almonds, walnuts, peanuts, pistachios, Brazil nuts and cashews are good sources of protein. Nuts also provide a wide array of vitamins and minerals including Calcium, Zinc, Potassium, Selenium, amino acids and Vitamin E that help maintain dental health.

Meat, Fish & Soy – Meat and soy contain arginine which is an amino acid that helps in protecting teeth from decay, cavities and plaque. Eggs, meat, fish and soy products are also few of the the top healthy foods you can eat for healthy teeth and gums as they prevent periodontal disease and make bones and teeth stronger. Fatty fish like wild salmon, tuna, Atlantic herring and mackerel are great sources of Omega 3 fish oils and Vitamin D. They not only prevent gum disease and tooth decay but also protect against heart disease.

Did you know that flossing every day helps dislodge pesky food particles and helps prevent tartar buildup in places where even a toothbrush cannot reach. It also helps prevent bad breath and the possibility of gum disease.
