A National Symposium on “Legal Issues in Medical Practice- Mandatory Awareness for The Medical Professional” was organized by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, AIIMS Rajkot on 24th January, 2026 through hybrid mode.
The objective of this Symposium was –
To enhance awareness of the legal and ethical responsibilities in medical practice.
To familiarize clinicians with the current laws, rules, and regulations governing healthcare.
To understand the importance of valid consent and proper documentation in medicolegal safety.
To update participants on PCPNDT Act compliance and its practical implications.
To recognize and prevent medical negligence through evidence-based and legally sound practices.
To empower medical professionals to practice with confidence, accountability, and legal preparedness.
Dr. L. N. Dorairajan, Executive Director, AIIMS, Rajkot inaugurated the CME and emphasized the importance & relevance of such program in clinical practice.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Pinky Sahoo (Co-Chairman), Medical superintendent and Head Obstetrics and Gynaecology AIIMS, Rajkot marking the beginning of the academic proceedings.
The event was formally commenced with the opening address by Dr. Sanjay Gupta (Co-Patron and Organizing Chairman) , Dean Academics, Prof and Head Forensic Medicine and Toxicology AIIMS, Rajkot , setting the tone for the symposium.
2 Informative sessions were contributed by Dr. Dhanya S. from Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar on “Rules, Regulations, Act governing major aspects of Medical practices” and “Medical Negligence”. Dr. Sanjay Gupta took Session on “Consent”, Dr. Pinky Sahoo and Dr. Vijyeta Jagtap (Associate Professor, OBGYN) highlighted regarding the “PCPNDT Act Compliance” and Dr. Utsav Parekh (Associate Professor, FMT) on “Medicolegal Cases” followed by an engaging and enlightening panel discussion. The symposium was made available online as well, apart from active offline attendance and participation.
