Mucormycosis or Black Fungus, is a rare but known infection which has us all scared as a community, of late. Unlike COVID, we have known it for long & hence we can treat it better provided the patient gets timely diagnosis & treatment. Was glad to be a speaker at the online awareness programme on Mucormycosis conducted in the presence Hon'ble Health Minister, Govt. Of Jharkhand Banna Gupta sir. The Black Fungus helpline we launched here will help us to ensure that help & information is available to all without delay.

Honored to share screen with Hon'ble Health Minister Banna Gupta Sir and be able to address the fear psychosis prevalent around BlackFungus/Mucormycosis in an awareness program conducted by health ministry & joined by 800+ health centres across Jharkhand. We also launched a Free 24*7 Black Fungus Helpline. I hope it goes a long way in curbing the damage caused by lack of information and timely detection of this deadly but rare disease, & in helping people be accurately aware of it's earliest symptoms.

And then there are days when God gives you a moment to be proud of your job !
Today was one such day when I removed this huge intraocular foreign body today while keeping the Globe Architecture nicely preserved .
An hour and a half long vitreoretinal surgery was done to remove this iron particle, which was lying on the retina, which entered the eye after trauma.Not removing it in time as an emergency procedure, would not only have caused a permanent vision loss, it also would have caused the eyeball loss and possibly, extension of infection outside the globe, around the socket.

NON SURGICAL TREATMENT OF FLOATERS NOW POSSIBLE IN OUR CITY

Eye floaters are small pieces of debris that float in the eye’s vitreous humor. This debris casts shadows onto the retina (the light-sensitive tissue layer at the back of the eye). If you have eye floaters, it is these shadows that you see “floating” across your field of vision.
Also known as floater laser treatment, vitreolysis is a non-invasive, pain-free procedure that can eliminate the visual disturbance caused by floaters. The goal of vitreolysis is to achieve a “functional improvement”. That is, to allow you to return to “normal” day-to-day activities without the hindrance of floaters.

At Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital, it has always been our constant endeavour to be the light of the hopeless in a moonless night.April and May of 2020 was a conglomeration of such gloomy days for many. As eye surgeons, we derive the maximum job satisfaction when God gives us a chance to instil a ray of light in such dark times, and that is precisely what we tried to do.
It feels good to be appreciated for the tireless work we put in during COVID LOCKDOWN.Dont know about the vaccine, but this recognition is definitely a booster dose for all of us at KASHYAPS.
