six years back i met with an accident spinal cord injury. i fall down from a tree and broke my neck at c5-c6 level. I couldn’t walk because my body is paralysed as a result of Spinal Cord Injury that has impacted my fingers and lower body since then I am on wheel chair now. In our area no one was aware of Spine injury and after my injury local hospital didn’t even admitted me then my brother took me to AIIMS Hospital in New Delhi. After 27 days of injury I got operated in AIIMS and on same day I was referred back to Government hospital in Rishikesh for Bed rest. During that time many pressure sores were developed in my body but Doctors didn’t take care of it and day by day my condition was getting worse so my brother took me to a government hospital in New Delhi. After one month I again came back to Rishikesh as my family was not able to arrange funds for hospital expenses. My father’s financial condition was not strong to afford any treatment for me so after 1 year I went back to my house and by that time I had sores all over my body and most of the joints were also got blocked. Then my parents and younger brother took care of me. One day my hip bone got fractured as therapist was trying to make me sit and after operation I had severe issues with one leg. My Father is a Farmer and income for our house is very limited. Our house is on a hilly area so it was getting very tough for my family to take care of me. I spent my next 3 years in same condition. By God’s grace one day, KIM HEARTLIN foreigner tourist guide suddenly came one day there in my village met my younger brother then he told him about my condition then my brother bring to him at my home then he helped me alot and by his help I got admitted in a Rehab center Hospital,There my condition improved a lot. I had no hopes with my life but in That center I saw other patients with same injury and all were working very hard for their recovery and by seeing all this I too got motivated. There I met Wheel chair rugby team and then I also started playing wheel chair Rugby. After 6 months of rehabilitation and treatment I went to Haridwar and joined basic computer course and also started a job on data entry. Later through one of my friend I came to know about ESCIP house which offers independent and wheelchair trainings to wheel chair users. Then I came here on 25th September 2013 through KIM HEARTLIN . I met jonathan sigworth here, he taught me wheel chair skills also independent skills, Such as – 1- Exercises 2- Dressing 3- Eating 4- Bowel management 5- Bladder management 6- Shifting(Bed to chair and back) 7- Wheel chair propelling 8- Wheelies 9- Going up and down the Ramp 10- Facing road obstacles etc. 11- Wheel chair rugby game. and much more I have experienced these changes in me, now I am fully independent and I can tell you how great it feels when you start doing your stuff independently.
