Chemical injury is a devastating injury to the eyes as it has a short, mid and long term damages to the eyes. So everyone should be aware of it and proper treatment under expert guidance can save your eyes from damages.
Patient presented to our OPD with recurrent pain watering and foreign body sensations in her right eye from last 6-7 months. She has a history of chemical injury 7 months back. She was taking treatment for this but not getting relief and her vision is also going down.
She was diagnosed as a case of near total limbal stem cell deficiency with recurrent corneal defects with conjunctivation of cornea and symblepharon of upper lid. Treatment started and initially conservative management done to decrease the swelling of eye and than planned the surgery of ocular surface to relief her pain and other symptoms.
Learning from above case is use protective glasses while handling chemicals and in case of exposure wash eyes properly with clean water and immediately rush to a eye specialist.
