Utsarga has made phenomenal strides in the field of healthcare and blood donation in the last three decades. The organization came into existence on September 9, 1984 in Sambalpur town, a brainchild of some dedicated volunteers, who realized the significance of BLOOD for saving lives and the need for a voluntary blood donation organization. Presently, Utsarga has more than 1200 registered members. It has organized hundreds of health camps for blood donation and blood grouping at different places with active participation of the District Red Cross Society, District Health Administration and like-minded organizations. These camps have proven to be ideal in identification and registration of new members with rare blood groups. Over the years Utsarga’s sphere of activities has increased. Utsarga is active in the field of healthcare with a special focus on children’s health care, blood donation and many other social activities. The undivided Sambalpur district, has been its area of focus since its inception with the motto of “Health for All”. It has also been concerned with the social issues of the city like hospital cleaning, mass cleaning, cremation of destitute dead bodies, water distribution and plantation of trees. In 2002-03, Utsarga in collaboration with Smile Foundation India undertook a project for Underprivileged Children of village, Samleipadar in the outskirts of Sambalpur town. They also undertook the work of cleaning the local pond, drains and roads. From December 1, 2005, Utsarga has adopted four orphanages of Sambalpur district, in collaboration with Smile Foundation India, with a view to improve the health & education of the inmates. It has also been involved in other health care activities and awareness programs regarding tuberculosis, leprosy eradication, and arrangement of blood for sickle cell and thalassemia patients. Besides, Utsarga has also organized Hepatitis ‘B’ vaccination camps especially for children and detection of Osteoporosis for elderly person. Utsarga has also taken up the initiative for free health check-up and distribution of medicines to the inmates of old age homes, Zara Niwas. It has started parallel “Anna Yojana” where free rice and dal has been distributed to the poor and needy persons. Utsarga is also working on Organ and Whole Body Donation. Where we create awareness and process regarding organ and whole body donation after death. So, that organ can be useful to the needy patients and the body can be useful for advance medical studies. Till now 112 people have pledged with Utsarga for whole body donation out of which 12 bodies have been already handed over to Anatomy Dept. , VIMSAR , Burla. Finally, Utsarga has always been felicitating persons and organizations who have done outstanding services in the field of social development.
