World Animal Day 2025 Celebration

World Animal Day, observed every year on October 4, is dedicated to raising awareness about animal rights, welfare, and conservation. It reminds us of our responsibility to treat all living beings with compassion and respect.
On this occasion, Junali J Buragohain, a genuine animal activist from Assam, shared a few words about the importance of caring for animals and protecting their lives. The State Veterinary Hospital, Sibsagar, in collaboration with Proyakh NGO and its founder Junali Buragohain, organized a week-long free anti-rabies vaccination camp, along with a feeding drive and awareness program to mark the day.

🌿 A Source of Inspiration – Radhika Bora Das 🌿

Radhika Bora Das, the proud founder of “Radhika Farm House” in Sivasagar, has today become a shining example and source of inspiration for countless women and unemployed youth. Life tested her with many hardships, yet she never gave up. With courage, determination, and hard work as her companions, she continued to move forward and turned her dreams into reality.

Nearly ten years ago, she started a small goat farm with the indigenous Assam Hill Goat. Today, that humble beginning has grown into a model of integrated farming. Her farm now houses more than 60 goats, including improved breeds like Sirohi, Beetal, and Marwari, along with over 10 cattle and a thriving poultry unit. She also cultivates green fodder for her livestock and has successfully ventured into dragon fruit farming.

What makes Radhika Farm House truly unique is its two-storey scientific farm structure, where cleanliness, discipline, and modern scientific practices go hand in hand. Standing firmly by her side are her husband and son, her strongest pillars of support.

Radhika is not just a successful entrepreneur; she is also a dedicated trainer, guiding the local community in scientific goat rearing and empowering many to become self-reliant.

She always expresses her heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Amrit Tamuly, who has been her guide and the treating veterinarian for her farm animals, providing timely advice and medical care throughout her journey. She also acknowledges the constant support and encouragement from the entire team of the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, Sivasagar, who have stood beside her as strong allies.

On 15th August 2025, Radhika Bora Das was proudly honored with the “Best Farmer Award” by the Sivasagar District Administration, a recognition of her relentless effort and remarkable achievements.

✨ Radhika Bora Das is more than a farmer—she is a symbol of resilience, perseverance, and hope. Her story proves that when farming is blended with science, passion, and discipline, it can transform lives and inspire generations.

An African Swine Fever (ASF) awareness programme was organized on 01/09/2025 at Dimoumukh Miching Village with active participation from the local pig farmers. The objective of the programme was to sensitize farmers about the ongoing risks of ASF, its clinical signs, modes of transmission, and the preventive measures required to protect pig populations. Farmers were also guided on adopting strict biosecurity practices, timely reporting of unusual pig deaths, and safe disposal methods. The interactive session helped clear doubts of the farmers and encouraged them to take collective responsibility in preventing the spread of ASF in the area.

An ASF (African Swine Fever) Awareness Camp was organized by the State Veterinary Hospital, Sivasagar, on 29/08/2025 among the farmers of Pachi Pathar and Kamarfodhia. The camp emphasized that scientific pig farming practices are the only sustainable way to prevent ASF.

During the programme, Dr. Chayanika Das interacted with farmers through an open discussion on the root causes of ASF, its transmission routes, diagnostic methods, and practical steps to control the disease. It was highlighted that no treatment or vaccination is available so far due to the constantly changing variant strains of ASF, though importantly, the disease does not spread to humans.

Farmers were also sensitized on safe disposal practices — dead pigs must never be thrown into ponds or rivers, as this increases the chance of outbreaks. Instead, carcasses should be buried in a 6–7 ft deep pit to prevent contamination.

The camp saw the active participation of Pallabi Konwar and Adhiraj Bhuyan Veterinary field assistant , who contributed to raising awareness. As part of the initiative, disinfectants and deworming medicines were distributed among the farmers to encourage better farm hygiene and health management.
