🩺 Pharmacovigilance: The Science Protecting Patient Safety 🏥

Pharmacovigilance is a crucial field in healthcare, focusing on the detection, assessment, understanding, and prevention of adverse drug reactions.
The goal is simple yet vital: ensure medicines are safe and effective for every patient. 💊🔬
---

⚕️ Key Steps in Pharmacovigilance

🧪 Detection – Collecting safety data from patients, clinicians, clinical trials, and post-marketing surveillance.
🩻 Assessment – Identifying safety signals and evaluating the seriousness of reported reactions.
📊 Evaluation – Continuously reviewing the benefit–risk profile of medicines.
📢 Prevention – Issuing safety alerts, regulatory updates, and clear communication for safer drug use.
---

🛡️ Why Pharmacovigilance Matters

💉 Protects patients from harmful side effects
💊 Ensures long-term safety of marketed drugs
🤝 Builds trust between patients, doctors, and pharma companies
📚 Enables data-driven healthcare decisions
🧬 Supports safer and more effective drug development

🧠Rabies – Causes, Symptoms, Prevention & Treatment | Explained in Simple Terms

Rabies is a deadly viral disease that affects the brain and nervous system. It spreads mainly through the bite or scratch of an infected animal — especially dogs, bats, or wild animals. Once symptoms appear, rabies is almost always fatal — but it’s 100% preventable with timely vaccination.

In this video, we’ll cover:
✅ What is Rabies?
✅ Causes and how it spreads
✅ Stages of rabies infection

🚨Crushing a tablet can turn medicine into poison. Here's why!🚨

Most of us have seen people crushing tablets so they are easier to swallow. Parents often do this for children, and many adults do it too when tablets feel "too big."
👉But here's the truth: Not every medicine is safe to crush.
In fact, doing this can turn safe medicine into something dangerous.

🚫Medicines that should never be Crushed
➡️Enteric coated tablets:
👉Aspirin (EC), omeprazole
•Designed to dissolve in the intestine, not the stomach.
•Crushing can destroy the protective coating and cause stomach irritation.

➡️Sustained Release tablets (SR, CR, XR, MR, XL, LA, Re**rd, Depot)
👉Metformin SR,
•These medicines dissolve slowly over hours.
•Crushing = entire dose released at once risk of overdose and side effects.

➡️Sublingual / Buccal / ODT (orally disintegrating)
👉Nitroglycerin
•Formulated to dissolve in the mouth for rapid absorption.
•Crushing defeats their purpose

➡️Hazardous medicines (e.g., chemotherapy drugs)
👉Methotrexate tablets
•Breaking them exposes toxic powder, dangerous even to the handler.

➡️Film coated tablets
👉Clarithromycin, Levocetirizine
•They shouldn't be crushed but not always dangerous
•So generally avoid crushing unless PHARMACIST allow

The medicines that can be crushed or split
☑️Immediate release
👉Plain Paracetamol, Aspirin IR

☑️Simple chewable or dispersible tablets

Crushing medicines may look harmless but it can be dangerous. So ALWAYS CONSULT PHARMACIST before altering any medicine💊
