Nine Injured in Sumo Accident at Amirabad Tral; Five Referred to Srinagar Hospitals.

Nine persons were injured in a road accident in Tral morning, after a speeding Sumo vehicle went out of the driver’s control near Amirabad area of Tral.

According to reports, the vehicle lost control, resulting in injuries to all nine passengers on board. The injured were immediately shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Tral for initial treatment. Among them, those with serious injuries were later referred to Srinagar hospitals for advanced medical treatment.

Block Medical Officer (BMO) Tral, Dr. Jawhara, while speaking to the media, said that nine injured persons were brought to SDH Tral following the road accident at Amirabad Tral. She added that five of the injured, who sustained serious injuries, were referred to Srinagar hospitals for specialized treatment.

Meanwhile, Tral Police have taken cognizance of the incident and registered a case. Further investigation into the matter has been initiated.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday organised a special programme in Pampore to collectively listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popular monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from senior party leaders and workers, who gathered to hear the Prime Minister’s address and deliberate on the key issues highlighted during the broadcast. Among those present were Ex-District President and senior leader Lateef Ahmad Bhat, District Vice President Pushpa Wangnoo, District General Secretary Arfat Ahmad Khan, District Secretary Farooq Ahmad, and other prominent leaders including Ramesh Wangnoo, Manzoor Ahmad Ganie, Altaf Ahmad Mir, Mansha Jan, Yasir Bhat, and Sajad Ahmad.

Speaking on the occasion, party leaders underscored the importance of Mann Ki Baat as a significant platform through which the Prime Minister connects directly with citizens across the country. They noted that the programme addresses a wide range of issues including social awareness, national achievements, innovation, youth empowerment, and community-led initiatives.

The participants listened attentively to the broadcast and later held discussions on the themes and messages conveyed in the episode. Leaders reiterated their commitment to strengthening grassroots outreach and ensuring that the ideas and initiatives highlighted during the programme reach every section of society.

The programme concluded with a renewed resolve among party workers to actively contribute towards public welfare and nation-building efforts in line with the Prime Minister’s vision.

Employees of the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) staged a strong protest in Awantipora against the Electricity Amendment Bill. During the demonstration, a large number of employees gathered in the department’s premises and raised slogans against the privatization of the power sector.

The protesters said that the privatization of electricity is unacceptable under any circumstances and goes against public interest. They demanded that the Electricity Amendment Bill be immediately rejected in Parliament.

The protesting employees warned that if the bill is passed, they will intensify their agitation, and the government will be fully responsible for the consequences

*Pulwama Police Apprehend Drug Peddler; Contraband Substances Recovered, FIR Registered*

Feb 11`````In its continued drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse, Pulwama Police apprehended one individual and recovered contraband substances from his possession. A police party of Police Station Rajpora, during routine patrolling duty at Hanjan Balla, apprehended one Javid Ahmad Dar, S/o Gh. Mohd Dar, R/o Rajpora, and recovered contraband substances from his possession including Petril (03½ strips), Anxit (01 strip), Tramadol (24½ strips), Pregabalin (06½ strips) and Rexcof (04 bottles).

In this regard, a case FIR No. 10/2026 under Sections 8/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Rajpora and investigation has been taken up.

Pulwama Police remains committed to taking strict action against individuals involved in drug peddling and appeals to the public to cooperate in eradicating the menace of drugs from society.

J&K POLICE IN SHOPIAN SOLVE THEFT CASE WITHIN HOURS; STOLEN PROPERTY RECOVERED; ACCUSED ARRESTED

Shopian, February 09: Demonstrating its commitment to swift investigation and decisive action against crime, Shopian Police have solved a theft case within hours of its registration, leading to the arrest of an accused person and recovery of stolen property.
On 08.02.2026, Police Station Shopian received a written complaint from Mohd Altaf Wani S/o Ghulam Hassan Wani R/o Dashipora, Shopian, proprietor of a mobile shop namely M/S “Mobile World”, located at Hospital Road, Shopian. The complainant reported that during the intervening night of 07/08.02.2026, unknown miscreants broke into his shop and decamped with mobile phones and other mobile accessories.
Taking immediate cognizance of the matter, FIR No. 08/2026 under relevant provisions of law was registered, and investigation was taken up without delay. Leveraging technical inputs and sustained investigative efforts, the police team successfully traced and apprehended one accused identified as Umar Akbar Malik R/o Khasipora, Shopian.
During investigation, on his disclosure, 05 mobile phones, 01 tablet, 01 Apple Watch, and other mobile accessories were recovered.
It has also come to the fore during investigation that one associate of the accused, who is a juvenile, was also involved in the commission of the offence. In view of legal provisions, the identity of the juvenile has been withheld, and necessary action has been initiated as per the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is underway to ascertain any additional involvement.
