Pulwama Police Continue Anti-Drug Drive, Recover Contraband; One Arrested

Pulwama Police on Wednesday continued their vigorous campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking by arresting a drug peddler and recovering a large quantity of contraband during a naka checking at Circular Road near Tahab Chowk. During the operation, police intercepted a person and, upon search, recovered 413.50 grams of cannabis (charas choora-like substance), one stick of charas weighing 36.5 grams, and 70 grams of charas powder, all packed in polythene. The accused was identified as Bilal Ahmad Ganaie of Chatapora. A case FIR No. 08/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered and investigation is underway. Pulwama Police reiterated their commitment to making the district drug-free and appealed to the public for cooperation.(ROK)

*Police arrests bootlegger in Awantipora, illicit liquor recovered*

Awantipora 14 January 2025:

In a significant action against illegal liquor trade, Police Awantipora have arrested a person and seized illicit liquor from his possession.

A Police party of PS Awantipora headed by SHO PS Awantipora Inspector Ajaz Hmad, during a routine patrolling at Gurduwara Awantipora, intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee after noticing police party but was apprehended tactfully. He has been identified as Irshad Ahmad Mochi S/O Mohd Sultan Mochi R/O Pinglish Tral.

During search, 18 bottles of illicit liquor and a cash amount of ₹18,200/- were recovered from his possession. It is pertinent to mention that the recovered cash is suspected to be the proceeds of liquor trade, which is under investigation.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 20/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at PS Awantipora and investigation has been initiated.

Awantipora Police urges the citizens to come forward with any information related to drug or liquor Trafficking in their area, as community cooperation is vital in our fight against the social evils.

Pulwama Police on Tuesday seized the property of an maccused involved in a major narcotics case as part of their sustained and vigorous campaign against drug trafficking in the district.
The action was taken against Fayyaz Ahmed Mir, son of Ghulam Nabi Mir, a resident of Karimabad, Pulwama, in connection with an ongoing investigation under FIR No. 248/2025, registered at Police Station Pulwama under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act. During the investigation, police recovered a substantial quantity of 46 kilograms of g***a.
Police records further reveal that the accused has a prior history of involvement in narcotics-related offences. Earlier, FIR No. 39/2025 was registered against him at Police Station Pulwama under Sections 8/30 of the NDPS Act, in which hashish was recovered.
District Police Pulwama stated that the seizure of property is a strong legal measure aimed at dismantling the financial networks supporting drug trafficking. The move, police said, sends a clear message that individuals involved in the drug trade will face strict legal action and that no one is above the law.
Reiterating their commitment to eradicating the drug menace, Pulwama Police appealed to the public to cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies in the fight against narcotics.

*Pulwama Police Complete Court-Ordered Auction of 487 Seized Apple Boxes*

Jan 12``````In strict compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge (NDPS), Pulwama, the SIT NDPS Pulwama today successfully conducted a public auction of 487 apple boxes seized in connection with FIR No. 03/2026 under Sections 8/21 of the NDPS Act of Police Station Litter, through a transparent and competitive bidding process.

The auction proceedings were held at Police Station Litter and conducted strictly in accordance with prescribed legal procedures. The process was carried out in the presence of the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, Litter, the Horticulture Area Marketing Officer along with his team, besides independent witnesses and participating bidders, ensuring full transparency and fairness.

Upon completion of the bidding process, Manzoor Ahmad Wani, S/o Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Wani, R/o Shopian, emerged as the highest bidder at the rate of ₹670 per apple box. The total auction amount of ₹3,26,290/- (Rupees Three Lakh Twenty-Six Thousand Two Hundred Ninety only) has been duly deposited into the bank account of the Special NDPS Court, Pulwama, following due legal process.

Pulwama Police reiterated that the entire auction process was conducted strictly under court directions and in full compliance with law, reflecting the department’s commitment towards transparency, accountability and adherence to legal procedures.

MGNREGA BACHAO SANGRAM; JKPCC district president Pulwama Omar Jan held presser focusing on safeguarding the labourers rights under MGNREGA.

As MGNREGA is being replaced by the Viksit Bharat- G RAM G (Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission) Act, 2025, a new law that expands guaranteed employment to 125 days, links work to durable rural infrastructure (water security, climate resilience), strengthens digital governance via the National Rural Infrastructure Stack, and introduces a centrally-sponsored model for predictable funding, shifting focus from just jobs to sustainable rural development aligned with Viksit Bharat 2047 the congress party is opposing this move across country of replacing the name of MGNREGA.


Under the banner of MGNREGA Bachao Sangram a team of senior leaders of congress party led by it's district president Omar Jan held a presser at district headquarter's Pulwama focusing on safeguarding MGNREGA and rights of people of J&K.

During the presser he lashed out at BJP Government and said that the government failed in fulfilling the promises made to the people of J&K ans Ladakh. He said that the statehood must be restored as promised by the honable Supreme court and bjp Government as soon as possible.

*Police Awantipora Solve Theft Case; Stolen Property Recovered*

Awantipora, 10 January 2026:

Police Station Pampore received a written complaint from Mohammad Maqbool Wani S/o Gh. Ahmad Wani, R/o Drangbal, reporting that during the intervening night of 06/07 January 2026, unknown miscreants forcibly entered his residential house and shop and decamped with copper items, gold ornaments, and cash.
Accordingly, FIR No. 01/2026 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Pampore, and investigation was taken up.

During the investigation, a police team headed by SHO PS Pampore, Inspector Khalid Fayaz, under the overall supervision of SDPO Pampore, Shri R. P. Singh, employed modern investigative techniques, including the analysis of CCTV footage from multiple locations, which led to the identification of the accused persons involved in the commission of the crime.

The following accused have been apprehended:

Mohammad Sahil Sheikh,
S/o Sahib Ali Sheikh,
R/o Narela Gaon, Delhi,
A/P Harnag, Anantnag.

Zahoor Ahmad Khan,
S/o Shorabh Ahmad Khan,
R/o Madanpur Khadder, Delhi,
A/P Harnag, Anantnag.

Both accused have been arrested and are presently in police custody. Part of the stolen property has been recovered.

Further investigation is in progress to recover the remaining stolen property and to ascertain the involvement of the accused in other similar cases.

J&K POLICE AT GANDERBAL SEIZES ILLICIT TIMBER ALONG WITH VEHICLE; SMUGGLER ARRESTED.*

*8TH, JANUARY 2026*

In a swift and well-coordinated operation against timber smuggling, *J&K Police at Ganderbal* successfully seized a consignment of *illicit Timber* along with a *Load Carrier* and arrested the Accused involved.*

During routine naka checking near *Wussan,* a police team of PS Ganderbal intercepted a suspicious load carrier vehicle bearing Registration No. *JK16B-4440.* Upon inspection, the vehicle was found carrying *Eight (08) Logs of illegally felled Kail Timber.* Sensing police presence, the driver fled the spot, abandoning the vehicle.

A thorough search of the vehicle revealed that the seized timber was being transported without any valid permit or legal documentation, following which the vehicle and timber were seized as per law.

Accordingly, Case *FIR No. 04/2026 under Section 303 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 26 of the Forest Act* stands registered at *PS Ganderbal.*

Subsequently, on the directions of *SSP Ganderbal Shri Khalil Ahmad Poswal-JKPS,* a *Special Police Team* was constituted. After sustained and strenuous efforts, the accused *Irshad Ahmad Dar, S/O Mohd Qasim Dar, R/O Nilahnajwan, Kangan* was apprehended and put behind the bars.

*Ganderbal Police* reiterates their firm commitment to curbing illegal timber smuggling and protecting the forest wealth of the district and warn that strict action shall be taken against anyone involved in environmental degradation.
