Pressure Horns Banned; ₹10,000 Fine, Jail Term for Violators in J&K
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police has issued a public notice reiterating a complete ban on the use of pressure horns across the Union Territory, warning of strict legal action against violators.
According to the notice, a copy of which lies with news agency Kashmir News Corner --- KNC, the ban is in compliance with directions of the Supreme Court of India in a case titled Abhay Singh vs State of Uttar Pradesh & Others, which prohibits the use of all types of pressure horns.
The department stated that use of pressure horns is an offence under Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and violators can face a fine of up to ₹10,000 and imprisonment of up to six months.
The prohibited devices include air pressure horns, musical horns, reverse horns, ho***rs, trumpets and other sound-producing devices that create harsh or alarming noise in violation of Rule 119 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR), 1989.
The Traffic Police has directed vehicle owners to remove such devices immediately, warning that non-compliance will invite strict action. The public has also been urged to cooperate in curbing noise pollution and making Jammu and Kashmir a noise-compliant region. (KNC)
