Srinagar, April 20, 2026:

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, IPS, chaired a comprehensive Crime Review meeting of District Police Srinagar at the Conference Hall, PCR Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by all Zonal SPs, SP Headquarters, DySP Headquarters, all SDPOs, DySP DAR, all SHOs/Incharge Police Posts and Incharges District Police Office.

At the outset, the overall crime scenario of District Srinagar was reviewed in detail. Threadbare discussions were held to enhance the quality of investigation and prosecution in cases registered under UAP Act, NDPS Act, and general crime categories, with a focus on improving conviction rates.

A detailed review of performance was conducted across all Zones, Sub-Divisions, and Police Stations.
Key areas discussed included general crime, POCSO cases, Crimes against Women, Murder cases, Theft and Burglary, NDPS and UAPA cases, Action against alAbsconders and Proclaimed Offenders, Preventive measures, Grievance Redressal, Organized crime, and implementation of Nyaya Sakshya.

Special emphasis was laid on:

โ— Expediting disposal of pending and backlog cases
โ— Strengthening investigation in UAPA and NDPSA cases through professional and meticulous handling
โ— Enhancing conviction rates by adhering strictly to legal provisions and SOPs
โ—Identification and attachment of properties and freezing of bank accounts linked to illegal proceeds of crimes.

The chair emphasized intensified action against drug trafficking and directed officers to dismantle NDPS hotspots in a systematic manner. Investigating officers were instructed to explore forward and backward linkages in all NDPS and UAPA cases and ensure financial investigations to trace illegal proceeds.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, launched on April 9, 2026, for a duration of three months.
SSP Srinagar stressed coordinated efforts between Police and District Administration to raise awareness about drug abuse and to involve community leaders and Imams in sensitizing the public.

Officers were directed to take strict action against individuals involved in drug peddling, with provisions for Cancellation of Passports, Aadhaar cards, driving licenses and other official documents as per law.

Concern was expressed over acquittals/discharges in certain UAPA and NDPS cases, and officers were instructed to address investigative shortcomings.
SHOs were further directed to conduct regular review meetings with IOs to enhance investigative skills and ensure accountability.

SSP Srinagar reiterated that progress achieved would be reviewed in subsequent meetings, and strict action would be taken against officers failing to meet targets.

The meeting concluded with directions to all officers to work with renewed commitment and coordination to ensure effective crime control and a safer Srinagar.

Srinagar, April 18, 2026:

Continuing its firm commitment towards building a drug-free society under the ongoing Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, Srinagar Police carried out a comprehensive inspection drive targeting chemist shops and druggist establishments located in the vicinity of hospitals across the district.

During the drive, Police teams conducted detailed inspections of stock registers, sale and purchase records, valid licenses, and other mandatory documentation at various establishments.

The primary objective of the exercise was to identify irregularities and curb the illegal sale or misuse of pharmaceutical drugs, particularly controlled and prescription medicines that may contribute to substance abuse among the youth.

Officials reiterated that any violation involving the illegal possession, sale, or distribution of controlled substances will invite strict legal action under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.

Srinagar Police further emphasized that such inspection drives will continue on a regular basis as part of sustained efforts under the initiative to ensure accountability, promote lawful practices, and safeguard public health and safety.

Shopkeepers were advised to maintain proper records, strictly adhere to prescribed norms, and extend full cooperation with inspection teams.

Srinagar, April 18, 2026:

Under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan, Srinagar Police conducted a series of drug awareness programmes at various locations across the district to sensitise the public about the harmful effects of drug abuse.

A Nasha Mukt Rally was organised at Khonmoh, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students of various local schools, along with youth, elders, and senior citizens. The participants were made aware of the ill effects of drug abuse and were encouraged to actively contribute towards building a drug-free society.

The participants were also assured of District Police Srinagarโ€™s firm commitment to combating the drug menace and taking strict action against those involved in drug peddling.

Srinagar Police reiterated its resolve to continue such awareness initiatives in the future to safeguard the youth and strengthen the collective fight against drug abuse.

Srinagar, April 18, 2026:

In the continued effort to engage youth positively and strengthen Police-Public relationship , Srinagar Police inaugurated T20 Knockout Cricket Tournament at Sri Pratap College Ground, Srinagar under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) 2025โ€“26.

A total of sixteen teams from across District Srinagar are participating in the tournament, offering a dynamic platform for young talent to showcase their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
The initiative aims to channel the energy of youth towards constructive activities while promoting discipline, unity, and a spirit of healthy competition.

The tournament was formally inaugurated by SSP Srinagar, Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy - IPS.
SP Headquarters Shah Umar - JKPS, SP East Ms. Neha Jain- IPS, DySP Headquarters Ms. Syed Sleet Shah - JKPS, DySP DAR Sh. Nazir Ahmad and other senior officers were also present at the occasion. During the interaction, officers encouraged the participants and emphasized the vital role of sports in character building, physical fitness, and guiding youth away from social evils such as drug abuse and crime.

Srinagar Police reiterates its commitment to empowering youth through sports and community-oriented initiatives under CAP, fostering confidence, leadership, and social responsibility among young individuals.

April 09, 2026 :

As a part of the public outreach programme of J&K Government, Srinagar Police observed Lok Darbar cm Awareness Programme of New Criminal Laws (Thana Diwas) across various Police Stations and Police Posts of the city.
In the *1st phase for the month of April 2026, the event was organized in (08) Police Stations & (03) Police Post* of the district which include :

PS Women
PS Ahmad Nagar
PS Harwan
PS Sangam
PS Shaheed Gunj
PS Lalbazar
PP Khonmoh
PP Nehru Park
PS Qamarwari

The meetings were chaired by supervisory officers & jurisdictional police officers and were attended by civil society members including members of Auqaf Committees, members of Traders Federation and Transporters, Panchayti Raj members, Religious Preachers, Mohallah elders etc.

During these Lok Darbar cm awareness programme of New Criminal Laws (Thana Diwas), participants highlighted various issues of public importance and put forth their grievances which were within the domain of district police like illegal narcotics trafficking, sand mafia, traffic issues, floating population etc. some of the issues highlighted pertaining to civil administration like improvement and maintenance of roads, sanitation, public health, electricity etc were also recorded.

District Police Srinagar utilizes Lok Darbar (Thana Diwas) as a platform to connect directly with the people that we serve. It is our duty to ensure that every citizen feels heared and that their grievances are addressed promptly. We are committed to building a safer and more secure environment for all.

Participants were urged to co-operate with Police in curbing the drug menace and in identifying anti national and anti-social elements to maintain peace and order in the society. Community members assured their cooperation for enhancing the police-public relationship.

Srinagar, April 6, 2026:

District Police Srinagar organized a farewell function in honour of outgoing officers, Shri Zuhaib Tanveer - JKPS, Shri Vaibhav Meena - IPS and Chief Prosecuting Officer DPO Shri Jaswant Raj, in recognition of their dedicated service and valuable contributions during their tenure in the District.

The function was presided over by SSP Srinagar, Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy - IPS.
It was also attended by Zonal SsP, SP Headquarters, DySP Headquarters, DySP DAR and other senior officers of Srinagar Police.

On the occasion, SSP Srinagar appreciated the exemplary services rendered by the outgoing officers, highlighting their professionalism, commitment, and significant role in maintaining law and order.
He also commended their efforts in strengthening coordination between the Police and Civil administration, which contributed to effective Policing and improved public service delivery.

Other officers present extended their best wishes to the outgoing officers for their future assignments and continued success in their professional careers.

In their addresses, the outgoing officers expressed heartfelt gratitude to the district administration and their colleagues for the cooperation, support, and camaraderie extended to them during their tenure in Srinagar.

The function concluded by presentation of mementos and Certificates of Appreciation by SSP Srinagar to all the outgoing officers.
This event reflected the spirit of mutual respect, teamwork, and professional excellence within District Police Srinagar.

Srinagar Police organized a farewell ceremony to honour thirteen retiring officers Sub-Inspectors Mohd. Maqbool, Mohd. Yaqoob, Riyaz Ahmad Gashro, Mohd Assadullah, Rajinder Singh, Dara Singh, Mohammad Amin Dar, Ab. Qayoom, Gulzar Ahmad Bhat and Gh Rasool Zargar and Assistant Sub-Inspectors Ali Mohammad Najar, Mohd. Yousuf Ganie and Ab. Rashid Shah at the District Police Lines, Srinagar.
All the officers have rendered years of dedicated and commendable service to the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, IPS, lauded the Retirees for their unwavering commitment, professionalism, and integrity throughout their careers.
He expressed his deep appreciation for their valuable contributions and extended his best wishes for their post-retirement life.

Srinagar, March 26, 2026:

In continuation of the Government of Jammu & Kashmirโ€™s public outreach initiative, Srinagar Police conducted Lok Darbar-cum-Awareness Programmes under the Thana Diwas initiative across multiple Police Stations and Police Posts in the district.

The programmes were organized at nine Police Stations and one Police Post, namely: PS Panthachowk, PS Khanyar, PS Nigeen, PS Rajbagh, PS R.M. Bagh, PS Shaltang, PS Nowhatta, PS Saddar, PS Zakoora, and PP Urdu Bazar.

Senior officers, along with supervisory and jurisdictional officers, chaired the meetings, which saw active participation from members of civil society, including Auqaf Committees, trade federations, transporters, Panchayati Raj representatives, and other prominent citizens.

The events served as an interactive platform for the public to voice concerns related to policing and civil administration. Police officers also sensitized participants about the newly introduced criminal laws, enhancing legal awareness and understanding among the public.

Notably, Police Station Shalteng organized a Thana Diwas programme at Imam Bargah, Gund Hassi Bhat, which witnessed significant participation from residents of Sozeith, Lawaypora, and Gund Hassi Bhat. The programme was chaired by SSP Srinagar, Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, IPS, along with SDPO West and SHO PS Shalteng. The officers welcomed the participants and appreciated their continued cooperation with the police.

During the interaction, participants reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and communal harmony and pledged full cooperation in curbing drug abuse and other criminal activities. A written assurance to this effect was also submitted.

The chair assured that all police-related issues would be addressed on priority, while matters pertaining to civil administration would be taken up with the concerned authorities for timely resolution.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from both sides, reaffirming a shared commitment towards maintaining public order, strengthening community engagement, and fostering a robust Police-Public partnership.
