Mian Altaf sb expresses dismay over sluggish pace of work
‘BRO failed to uphold its commitment of fast-paced development of vital road’
Member of Parliament (MP) representing Anantnag-Rajouri, Mian Altaf Ahmed sb has voiced his discontent over the sluggish pace of construction and the deteriorating condition of the strategically significant 220-km Jammu–Poonch highway.
Expressing concern over the current state of the 220-kilometer-long Jammu–Poonch highway, Mian Altaf sb emphasised that its poor condition has been causing considerable inconvenience to the public.
He criticised the slow progress on this crucial project by the BRO, asserting that it has undermined the road’s strategic importance and failed to uphold its commitment of fast-paced development.
In a statement issued, Mian Altaf sb called upon the responsible authorities to promptly address these issues and expedite necessary actions to improve road conditions. These roads, crucial for connectivity within Jammu and Kashmir, are maintained by the BEACON, a unit of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
“The highway is in dilapidated condition causing inconvenience to the public. The slow pace of work on this important project has marred the purpose of this strategic important road project,” Mian Altaf sb said.
He expressed disappointment over the slow pace of work and the dilapidated road conditions of the strategic Jammu–Poonch highway and sought immediate attention of the concerned authorities responsible for the maintenance and construction of the road projects along Jammu–Poonch Highway.
The Lok Sabha Member of Parliament said that limited resurfacing and maintenance of Rajouri–Thanamandi–Bufliaz road was required to mitigate the extreme public inconvenience.
He said that lakhs of pilgrims visit the holy shrine Shahdra Sharief and this unmaintained road was a serious inconvenience to visitors.
The MP said, “The Rajouri–Thanamandi–Bufliaz road holds a strategic significance and is important in connecting Srinagar with Jammu and various areas within the twin border districts. The road is currently in a dilapidated state and necessitates urgent intervention by the BRO.”
Mian Altaf sb said that the matter would be taken up with the Union Defence Minister as well.
