Case Study: Management of Gouty Arthritis with SFIP Protocols
A 43 years old patient came with complaint of recurrent knee pain, swelling, and stiffness since long time (around 7-8 years)
History: Patient had multiple episodes of acute gouty attacks managed with analgesics and urate-lowering therapy in the past, but progression to chronic gouty arthritis occurred.
Examination: Swollen knee with restricted range of motion, tenderness on palpation, and difficulty in weight-bearing.
Investigations
Baseline X-ray (Before):
• Joint space narrowing.
• Subchondral sclerosis.
• Irregular bony margins with evidence of tophaceous deposits.
• Advanced degenerative changes consistent with chronic gouty arthritis.
Follow-up X-ray (After SFIP Protocol):
• Restoration of clearer joint space.
• Reduction in periarticular calcification and erosions.
• Improved joint alignment.
• Overall radiological signs of stabilization and healing.
Treatment
The patient was treated with SFIP protocols [e.g.,functional joint rehabilitation, systemic personalized urate-lowering interventions which includes diet and nutritional support].
Duration of treatment: 20 sessions were taken for 2 months
Outcome
• Radiological: Notable improvement in joint architecture as seen in the “After” images.
• Clinical: Reduction in joint pain, improved mobility, and decreased frequency of acute flare-ups.
• Functional: Patient was able to resume daily activities with significantly improved quality of life.
Conclusion
Management of advanced gouty arthritis with SFIP protocols demonstrated both clinical and radiological improvement. This integrative approach may serve as a promising therapeutic strategy for patients with chronic gout who are at risk of joint destruction and disability.
