Super Scan is the only imaging center in entire Central and South Gujarat to offer 3T MRI imaging facility. Employing the technology which was earlier limited to research purpose, Super Scan is now setting new standards in medical imaging. Tesla (T) is the unit of measurement quantifying the strength of a magnetic field. Prior to the 3T MRI Machine, the MRI standard was 1.5T. Our 3T MRI scanner generates a magnetic field that is twice the strength of 1.5 Tesla machines and 10 to 15 times the strength of low field or open MRI scanners. The magnetic field produced by our 3T magnet offers extremely broad clinical reach from routine head, spine and musculature imaging to most advanced functional exams. While 1.5–tesla MR systems are good and were gold standard systems till now, they just can't characterize some subtle abnormalities as well as 3 Tesla MRI can. High field strength 3T MRI delineates structures that have not been seen before, such as blood vessels as small as 200 to 300 microns, reaching upto the ultra–structural level.

3T MRI gives exceptional anatomical details, superb image quality, high resolution images and significantly shorter scan times as compared with 1.5T MRI systems. Our 3T Achieve X MRI has patient friendly flared-bore magnet and shortest tunnel length in the industry. We have dedicated anatomy-specific SENSE coils to give highest resolution.

3T MRI is particularly beneficial for Neuro, Spine, MSK, Breast and Vascular imaging and opens up new horizons in diagnosis and management of the patients. Advanced MRI applications which we routinely do are - Brain/Breast/Prostate Spectroscopy, Nerve Imaging, Functional MRI, Tractography, WholeBody mDixon, Body/Liver Fat Quantification, WholeBody Scan, WholeBody Diffusion with background suppression (DWIBS), Brain and Body Perfusion, Ultra-high resolution imaging (2K imaging) and Cochlear Implant studies. Patients can feel apprehensive, nervous and scared when they come for MRI Scan. A CAT scan involves exposure to radiation at levels slightly higher than normal x-rays. The effective radiation dose from this procedure is about 10 mSv, which is about the same as the average person receives from background radiation (i.e. from the sun) in 3 years. However, the benefit of receiving an accurate diagnosis may outweigh the risk associated with radiation exposure.

According to the American College of Radiology, no single diagnostic x-ray has a radiation dose significant enough to cause adverse effects in a developing embryo or fetus. In general, CAT scans are not recommended during pregnancy unless the benefits of the CAT scan clearly outweigh the potential risk.

A special dye called contrast material is needed for some CT scans to help highlight the areas of your body being examined. The contrast material blocks X-rays and appears white on images, which can help emphasize blood vessels, intestines or other structures.

Depending on the reason why you’re getting a CT scan, you may need to drink a large glass of oral contrast. This is a liquid that contains either barium or a substance called Gastrografin (diatrizoate meglumine and diatrizoate sodium liquid).

Barium and Gastrografin are both chemicals that help doctors get better images of your stomach and bowels. Barium has a chalky taste and texture. You’ll likely wait between 60 and 90 minutes after drinking the contrast for it to move through your body.

Before going into your CT scan, tell your doctor if you:

- Are allergic to barium, iodine, or any kind of contrast dye (be sure to tell your doctor and the X-ray staff)
- have diabetes (fasting may lower blood sugar levels)
- are pregnant

The first commercially available CT scanner was created by British engineer Godfrey Hounsfield of EMI Laboratories in 1972. He co-invented the technology with physicist Dr. Allan Cormack. Both researchers were later on jointly awarded the 1979 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine. By 1981, Hounsfield was knighted and became Sir Godfrey Hounsfield.

A CT scan offers a plethora of benefits to those with internal injuries or other kinds of trauma. This technology allows doctors to visualize practically all parts of the patient’s body and helps them diagnose diseases accurately. Further, a CT scan is a critical tool in planning a patient’s treatment – be it for surgical, medical, or radiation purpose. Doctors can use the results as tools to determine which medications are working and what other treatments could be utilized.

Needless to say, CT scans have come a long way since the day Hounsfield introduced them to the world. This brain scanning technology has evolved into one of the most crucial and valuable tools in modern medicine.

A sonogram is arguably one of the niftiest tools that healthcare providers have at their disposal. It functions like a camera, taking a live picture of part of the body.

The image enables a provider to diagnose a wide variety of medical conditions. For many expectant parents, a sonogram can be cause for celebration if it assures them that they are having a healthy baby. Ultrasound imaging enjoys what the FDA calls "an excellent safety record." We are all exposed to radiation every day, mainly from the sun and soil. Other sources of radiation are man-made and include consumer products as well as diagnostic imaging tests like X-rays, CT scans, and nuclear medicine studies. Since the discovery of radiation, it has changed the entire course of medicine and science.

Born in Kalyan, Maharashtra - Anandibai, was born in a family of landlords and due to parental pressure, she got married at the young age of nine. At birth she was actually named 'Yamuna' but was later given the name anandi by her husband Gopalrao Joshi. Gopalrao, who was a progressive thinker and supported education for women, enrolled her in a missionary school, and later moved to Calcutta with her, where she learnt how to speak Sanskrit and English.

In the 1800's, it was very unusual for husbands to focus on their wives' education. Gopalrao was obsessed with the idea of Anandibai's education and wanted her to learn medicine and create her own identity in the world.

One day, Gopalrao walked into the kitchen and threw a fit of rage when he saw Anandibai cooking instead of studying. This made her even more focussed on her education.
It was the death of her newborn son that spurred 21-year-old Anandi Gopal Joshi to receive a degree from Women’s Medical College of Pennsylvania, becoming India’s first woman to go abroad to study medicine. The incident was a turning point for Anandi, who was married off at the age of nine. Her son, who was born when she was 14, did not survive more than ten days due to lack of medical care.

Anandi was widely recognized by not just her peers but also freedom fighter and editor of Kesari, Bal Gangadhar Tilak. “I know how in the face of all the difficulties you went to a foreign country and acquired knowledge with such diligence. You are one of the greatest women of our modern era. It came to my knowledge that you need money desperately. I am a newspaper editor. I do not have a large income. Even then I wish to give you one hundred rupees,” Tilak wrote to Anandi.

Anandibai Gopalrao Joshi has been an inspiration to millions of Indian women who found the motivation of stepping into the field of medicine.

She created history by making huge strides so early in her life, in a field that required precision and extensive education. Happy National Doctor’s Day, We are extremely grateful for all your relentless dedication to humanity.

When the results of a scan do not match the symptoms that the patients report, it is critical to use alternative modality that can dismiss any uncertainty of the disease/abnormality going undetected. The use of different modalities can aid in accurate diagnosis, however, such decisions are only made depending on the symptoms reported by the patients.

The discovery of X-ray as a technology has been a revolution in the field of medicine and radiology both. Wilhelm Roentgen, Professor of Physics in Wurzburg, Bavaria, discovered X-rays in 1895—accidentally—while testing whether cathode rays could pass through the glass, for which he was later awarded a Nobel Prize as well.

X-rays remain a cornerstone of modern medicine, their discovery paved the way for the development of today’s broad spectrum of imaging techniques, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, echocardiography, and many others -- some of which avoid the use of radiation altogether. Not a bad legacy for an accidental discovery.
