He is Yellapragada Subbarao.

I am 100% confident that none of you have ever heard this name. Yet he was one of the most important biochemist and scientists of not only India but of entire world in the 20th century. He lead one of the most important medical researches in America during World War Two.

He discovered the role of phosphocreatine and adenosine triphosphate (ATP) as an energy source in the cell. This lead to the foundation of biochemistry and all the further discoveries in this field are directly or indirectly influenced by this.

He developed methotrexate for the treatment of cancer. This, without a doubt, is the single most important drug for the treatment of innumerable cancers. He has saved literally millions of life through this drug.

He discovered Diethylcarbamazine. This drug is the only good treatment available for filariasis or elephant foot, which if not treated, makes the life of the patient a living hell.

Working under Subbarao's guidance, Duggar made his discovery of the world's first tetracycline antibiotic, Aureomycin, in 1945. Do you have any idea what does word Aureo signifies. It is a latin word for Gold, meaning that it ushered the Golden era of antibiotics where millions of death will be prevented.

Despite all these superhuman achievements:

Except few people who are working in this field, no one knows him, especially in India.
He was denied fellowship in Harvard.
He lived without a green card throughout his life.
He was wronged by many of his fellow colleagues, who took all the fame, glory and patents on his work.
He was awarded a lesser LMS certificate not a full MBBS degree despite being one of the best student in the class. This is because he wore Khadi surgical dresses on Gandhi's boycott call, which displeased Dr. Bradfield, his surgical professor.
Please spread this message as much as you can about Dr. Subbarao. He is one of the best minds India has ever produced and I always cry when people display their ignorance by saying that why don't India have good scientists in medical field.

No matter how constrained and tied you are in terms of resources, if you have talent and single-minded ruthless focus, like Dr. Subbarao, you can literally achieve whatever you want.

Don't behave like dumb wits, worshiping celebrities, reality shows and stupid TV series and movies, which lowers the IQ of entire human race.

Lets celebrate our true heroes, which make indelible impact on real life.

PCOS (சினைப்பை நீர்க்கட்டி)எதனால் வருகிறது? எப்படி வெல்வது?

இந்தியாவில் 15-24வயது பெண்களில் 22%பெண்களுக்கு PCOS எனும் சினைப்பை நீர்க்கட்டி உள்ளது. 24வயதிற்கு மேல் இருப்பவர்களுக்கு? கண்டிப்பாக இன்னும் அதிகம் இருக்கும்.

ஸ்கேன் செய்து பார்த்தும் ஓவரிகளில் நீர்க்கட்டி இல்லை என்றாலும் PCOS இல்லை என்று சொல்லிவிட முடியாது.

கீழ்கண்டவற்றில் இரண்டு இருந்தாலே போதும். அவர்களுக்கு PCOS உள்ளது என எடுத்துக் கொள்ளலாம்.

1. irregular periods or absent periods-மாதவிடாய் தள்ளிப்போகுதல்அல்லது குறைந்து போகுதல் அல்லது நின்று போகுதல்.
2.ரத்தத்தில் ஆண்கள் ஹார்மோன் அளவு கூடியிருத்தல் - testosterone அல்லது இதில் எது இருந்தாலும் (அதிக முக அல்லது உடல் முடி, குணமாகாத முகப்பரு, சொட்டை விழுதல், பிரஷர் அதிகமாதல் )
3. ஒவரிகளில் நீர்க்கட்டி -ஸ்கேன் மூலம் கண்டுபிடித்தல்

irregular periods,அல்லது உடற்பருமன் அல்லது குழந்தையின்மை இருக்கும் அனைத்து பெண்களும் testosterone மற்றும் வயிறு ஸ்கேன் (Ultrasound abdomen) செய்து கொள்வது அவசியம்.

75% PCOS இருப்பவர்க்களுக்கு இன்சுலின் ரெசிஸ்டன்ஸ் உள்ளது. அதுவே காரணமாக இருக்கலாம் எனக் கருதப்படுகிறது. அதற்கு சான்றாக PCOS இருக்கும் முக்கால்வாசி பேர் குண்டாக இருக்கின்றனர். PCOS இருக்கும் 50% பேருக்கு 40வயதிற்குள்ளாக டயாபெடிஸ் வருகிறது.

வெயிட் குறைந்தால் இன்சுலின் ரெசிஸ்டன்ஸ் குறைந்து PCOS குறையும் என்பதால், டாக்டர்கள் "வெயிட்டை குறை" என பரிந்துரைக்கிறார்கள். அது அவ்வளவு சுலபமல்ல. இவர்களுக்கு இன்சுலின் ரெசிஸ்டன்ஸ் இருப்பதால் வெயிட் கூடுதல், வெயிட் கூடுவதால் இன்சுலின் ரெசிஸ்டன்ஸ் என்ற சுழற்சிக்குள் சிக்கிக் கொள்கிறார்கள்.

மெட்பார்மின்(ரெசிஸ்டன்ஸ் குறைக்கும் மருந்து) மருந்தும் சிலருக்கு வேலை செய்கிறது, பலருக்கு இல்லை. பல பெண்களை கஷ்டப்படுத்தும் இந்த வியாதி இன்சுலின் ரெசிஸ்டன்சை குறைப்பதன் மூலம் சரியாகலாம்.

இன்சுலின் ரெசிஸ்டன்ஸ் குறைய வேண்டுமானால், இன்சுலின் உற்பத்தி குறைந்து நார்மலாக வேண்டும். கார்ப் எனப்படும் மாவுச்சத்து உணவுகளை குறைத்தால், இன்சுலின் உற்பத்தி நார்மலாகி, ரெசிஸ்டன்ஸ் குறையும். லோ கார்ப் எனப்படும் பேலியோ எடுத்தால்-->இன்சுலின் குறைந்து நார்மலாகி-->டெஸ்டோஸ்டிரோன் நார்மலுக்கு வந்து-->PCOS இல்லாமல் போகும்-->irregular periods/குழந்தையின்மை சாரியாகும். இலவச இணைப்பாக வெயிட் நன்றாக குறைந்து நார்மலுக்கு வரும்.

சளி, இருமல் போக்கும் கஷாயம்
