According to Mental Health America, 41.8% of the U.S. population are people of color. 13.5% of people were born in different countries and 4.8% of the population are identified as LGBTQ+.
Over 5 million people have taken a mental health screening at mhascreening.org. The following data found were the communities struggling with mental health:
- 25.9% identified as LGBTQ+
- 8.22% were Asian American/Pacific Islanders
- 7.3% were black/African Americans
- 11.5% were Latin/Hispanic
- 1% were native or indigenous
- 8% were multi-racial or “other”
However, Mental Health America is trying to phase out the term “minority”, because they believe that regardless of race and ethnicity, everyone is equal in the eyes of mental health and it’s important to address every individual’s mental health-related issue.
Let’s support this cause because mental health privileges are for everyone!
