Dear friends, I had the pleasure of participating in a medical camp organised by Jupiter hospital at Kampala, Uganda in association with IHK hospital Kampala. The camp included consultation for patients suffering from cancer, kidney diseases and spine diseases. Along with me Dr Aniket Hase( Nephrologist) and Dr Priyank Patel( Spine Surgeon) participated in the camp held over 3 days. We also conducted a CME for the doctors in Kampala.

As part of the camp I had the pleasure of giving my opinion regarding treatment of various patients who were either diagnosed or were suspected of having cancer. Few minor OPD procedures like biopsies were performed.
Incidentally, i also got an opportunity of performing a surgery onone of the patients in the camp who had presented with a soft tissue tumor on her right shoulder. I'm glad to inform that the surgery went well and patient got discharged on post-op day 1.

It was a unique experience for me operating in a new healthcare system. Though resource constrained, i noted that the staff at that hospital was well trained and eager to learn.
I hope we can continue to offer our services to such underprivileged populations in the coming future.

I thank the administration of Jupiter hospital for setting up this wonderful initiative.

Breast cancer in men is a rare disease. Less than 1% of all breast cancers occur in men. For men, the lifetime risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer is about 1 in 833.
You may be thinking: Men don't have breasts, so how can they get breast cancer? The truth is that boys and girls, men and women all have breast tissue. The various hormones in girls' and women's bodies stimulate the breast tissue to grow into full breasts. Boys' and men's bodies normally don't make much of the breast-stimulating hormones.

Breast cancer occurs mainly in women, but men can get it, too. Many people do not realize that men have breast tissue and that they can develop breast cancer. Cells in nearly any part of the body can become cancer and can spread to other areas.
Breast cancer starts when cells in the breast begin to grow out of control. These cells usually form a tumor that can often be seen on an x-ray or felt as a lump. The tumor is malignant (cancer) if the cells can grow into (invade) surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body.

Smoking can cause cancer and then block your body from fighting it. to***co in cigarette smoke can weaken the body’s immune system, making it harder to kill cancer cells. When this happens, cancer cells keep growing without being stopped.
Doctors have known for years that smoking causes most lung cancers. It’s still true today, when nearly 9 out of 10 lung cancers deaths are caused by smoking ci******es or second hand smoke exposure
The most important thing you can do to prevent smoking-related cancer is not to smoke ci******es, or to quit if you do.

Your doctor may recommend a biopsy if he or she finds something suspicious during a physical exam or other tests. A biopsy is the main way doctors diagnose most types of cancers. Other tests can suggest that cancer is present, but only a biopsy can make a diagnosis.
Biopsy is a procedure to remove a piece of tissue or a sample of cells from your body so that it can be analysed in a laboratory. If you're experiencing certain signs and symptoms or if your doctor has identified an area of concern, you may undergo a biopsy to determine whether you have cancer or some other condition.
