TOWARDS REALIZING THE WHO GLOBAL ALCOHOL STRATEGY... !!

Looking back at the big efforts made by WHO at International, Regional and Country Level with very little support, in developing the Global Alcohol Strategy. The Drink Industry made all efforts to sabotage the Alcohol Strategy. The WHO Alcohol Strategy could be adopted by the World Health Assembly only in 2010, whereas activities against To***co and Drugs could begin in the late 80's. That shows the power of the Liquor Industry. With the adoption of the WHO Global Alcohol Strategy, things have started changing all over the world.

Feeling proud of my small participation at various levels. Thanking WHO-SEARO for all the support.

WHAT A MOMENT TO CELEBRATE 10 YEARS OF THE WHO GLOBAL ALCOHOL STRATEGY.... !!

Total Liquor Prohibition in Kerala is a perfect setting for me to commemorate the Tenth Anniversary of the WHO Global Alcohol Alcohol Strategy. Covid-19 Lockdown induced Liquor Prohibition has changed the aged-long blind concept that Liquor Sales and Consumption will only grow. Today we are witnessing around 60% huge drop in Liquor Sales in Karnataka and several other States where Liquor Outlets are opened after the Lockdown relaxations. Congratulating the Tens of Thousands who has quit Alcohol. Governments can never make them a fool again.

Feeling so proud to be part of the WHO Global Alcohol Strategy at several levels. If Governments translate the Global Strategy Recommendations into Policies that will pave the way for big developments in their respective States and Nations. The Great Lesson.... PREVENTION WORKS !!

ROAD SAFETY WEEK 2019 – HOW SINCERE ARE WE ??

The 30th National Road Safety Week is being observed in India from 4 - 10 February 2019. India has one of the highest Road Crashes, Deaths and Disabilities. Apart from few Media aimed programmes there are hardly any serious efforts from the concerned Ministry and Departments to induce a Road Safety Culture among its citizens beginning from the Schools to all Sectors of our Society. We need to remember that all the Road Users - the Pedestrian, Cyclist, Two – Three & Four Wheeler Users are all the Stakeholders. Road Safety Week Observation should aim at empowering our entire society towards a “Road Safety Culture”. (See - ADIC-India Publications)

Congratulations “Mizo National Front (MNF)” for sweeping the Election with the Manifesto of “Alcohol Prohibition”. Salute to the Will of the People !!

Have really experienced how the Peace-loving People of Mizoram consider 'Alcohol Control Policy' as one of their most priority topics. Thanks to the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India for providing an opportunity to co-ordinate the Regional Workshop on 'Evolving Effective Strategies for Alcohol Advocacy & Prevention’ for the North-Eastern States at Aizawl, jointly with the Mizoram Social Defence and Rehabilitation Board.
