Save Your Kidneys, Save Your Life Kidney is one of the vital organs in our body & it ages with us. Hence the risk for chronic kidney disease in the society increases over time.

Functions of kidneys include, but not limited to: remove waste products from the body, remove drugs from the body, maintain equilibrium of fluids in the body, produce hormones that normalize blood pressure, produce an active form of vitamin D that promote stout & healthy bones, control the production of red blood cells………
The three most common causes of chronic kidney disease are lifestyle diseases such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension which are very common now. A critical health condition such as Chronic Kidney Disease not only affects the normal life of the person affected but also of his family members, relatives and all the persons close to him/her. The expense for treatment of the kidney disease is very huge comparing to all other life-threatening diseases. And it is not curable too. Here is the significance of the motto : “PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE”. If we taken care of a bit on our diet, lifestyle and health, a number of critical complications that upset lives of us and our dear ones can be avoided. SAVE YOUR KIDNEYS, SAVE YOUR LIFE is a benevolent venture commenced under the leadership of Dr. Jayant Thomas Mathew MD [General medicine]; DM [Nephrology], who is the Professor and Head of the Department of Nephrology at Amala Institute of Medical Sciences, Thrissur. He is the son of Dr. Thomas Mathew, the first Nephrologist in Kerala. Unlike majority of those work in medical profession in the current time, Dr. Jayant T Mathew is a person highly dedicated to his profession; very compassionate to his patients; not at all profit motivated. He does not even having private practice at his home. For the last many years he is involved in Awareness Programs to let the public informed about lifestyle related health hazards & chronic kidney disease. Besides these activities he also helps his patients who face financial troubles. As it is decided to co-ordinate Dr. Jayant’s humanitarian endeavors to an extended level so that maximum people enjoy benefit of them, that this great venture ‘SAVE YOUR KIDNEYS, SAVE YOUR LIFE” came into being. As its initial steps we concentrate on:
• Voluntary awareness programs among public on life-style diseases & kidney disease, including classes, free medical advice, free medical camps & checkups;
• Counseling and moral support to kidney patients and their family members including house visits;
• Financial support to destitute kidney patients for treatment, medicines, transplantation and post-transplantation medications;
• Co-ordiantion of such related activities. Through this forum, any one in need can contact us to organize any of the above activities under the initiative of “SAVE YOUR KIDNEYS, SAVE YOUR LIFE.”
