The 79th Independence Day of India was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor by the Members of “The Udhampur Rotary Eye & General Welfare Foundation”, “Rotary Club Udhampur” and staff members of KLSM Rotary Eye & ENT Hospital, Udhampur on 15th August 2025 at base hospital.

The event commenced with the unfurling of the national flag by the Secretary General & Vice Chairman of the Foundation, followed by the singing of the national anthem. The gathering observed a moment of silence to remember and honor the sacrifices of our freedom fighters. The event served as a reminder of the importance of national unity, and reinforced the shared commitment of the staff and members to uphold the values of freedom, equality, and service.

After the flag hosting, a new borewell facility was inaugurated today at KLSM Rotary Eye & ENT Hospital, Housing Colony Udhampur, marking a significant step towards ensuring access to clean and reliable drinking water for the patients and residents of the area. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Rtn D. N. Bhakhri who cut the ribbon and addressed the gathering. Rtn D. N. Bhakhri dedicated a borewell to Rotary Eye & ENT Hospital in the memory of his beloved wife Late Smt Rama Bhakhri (Kamla) in the presence of Padma shri Shiv Dutt Nirmohi.

Speaking at the event, Rtn Kamal Gupta, Secretary General highlighted the importance of water. “Access to clean water is a basic right. Padma shri Shiv Dutt Nirmohi expressed their gratitude and optimism, he said with this borewell, "we are not just addressing a need but empowering the people of this community,”. “This borewell is a blessing for patients and the community.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Rtn Puran Lal Sharma and a community gathering over light refreshments. Members who attended the function were Rtn Kamal K. Gupta, Rtn Rajeev Gupta, Rtn Puran Lal Sharma, Rtn S. S. Kerni, Rtn Col. Hargovind Singh, Rtn. Surjeet Singh, Rtn D. N. Bhakhri, Rtn Kewal Krishan Sharma, Prof. Padamshiri Nirmohi were present on the occasion.

A free eye check-up camp was organized at Government Higher Secondary School – Sewna, Chenani to support better eye care for students and the local community. The camp was conducted by KLSM ROTARY Eye & ENT Hospital in collaboration with Shrimad Rajchandra Adhyatmik Satsang Sadhna Kendra (SRAASK) under the Vision Care Project.

A total of 422 people were screened during the camp, including both school children and residents from nearby areas. Out of these, 119 people were found to have refractive errors (poor eyesight), and 17 patients were identified with cataracts. As part of the service, 90 free near vision spectacles were given to those who needed them.

This effort helped many individuals who were unaware of their vision problems. Several children received their first eye check-up through this camp. Those with cataracts were advised for further treatment.
Mr. Ujjay Bhattacharya (SRASSK, Vision Care Project) was the chief guest during the eye screening camp. The camp was attended and supported by Rtn. Dwarka Nath Sharma, Rtn. Kamal Kishore Gupta, Rtn. Puram Lal Sharma, Rtn. Rajendra Sanson, Sh. Ashok Sharma and Shri Sanjay Sharma (Principal of the Govt. HS School, Sewna). Their presence showed strong community support.

The camp was managed by the Project Team of KLSM Rotary Eye & ENT Hospital Udhampur. The school staff and local people also helped to make the camp a success. This eye camp helped in spreading awareness about eye health and made basic vision care accessible to many people. The organizers plan to hold more such camps in nearby areas in the future. KLSM ROTARY Eye & ENT Hospital Udhampur remains committed to serving the community and providing better health services to those who need them most.

KLSM Rotary Eye & ENT Hospital Udhampur in collaboration with Rotary Club Udhampur and Inner Wheel club Udhampur organized a free Eye & General screening camp at Higher Secondary School Barolla, Distt. Udhampur on 7th Dec. 2024. The main objective of the camp is to provide ‘gift of sight’ to the school children by the Doctor and staff of KLSM Rotary Eye & ENT Hospital Udhampur. In this screening camp 280 school children suffering from different eye ailments were examined by the medical team of the hospital out of which 56 school children were identified for refractive error which will be given different dates in hospital for detail check-up. Patients were examined by Dr Sharika Ganjoo (Paediatric Ophthalmology), Dr Susheel Kudial (General Physician), Mr Anjani Kumar (Sr. Optometrist) & Mr Mukesh Yadav (Optometrist). Children who had low vision will be given spectacles by Inner Wheel Club & Rotary Club Udhampur jointly.

Ms Pratibha Gupta, Principal Higher Secondary School Barolla gave full support to organize the said camp. On this occasion President Rotary Club Udhampur Rtn Puran Lal Sharma, Secretary RC Udhampur Rtn Satish Gandotra, Rtn Rajendra Sanson, Rtn Suresh Gupta, Inner Wheel President Mrs Manju Baru and her team members actively participated in the camp.
