If we analyse the effect of the study of books on ourselves, we shall find that at the utmost it is only our intellect that derives profit from such studies, and not our inner spirit. This inadequacy of books to quicken spiritual growth is the reason why, although almost every one of us can speak most wonderfully on spiritual matters, when it comes to action and the living of a truly spiritual life, we find ourselves so awfully deficient. To quicken the spirit, the impulse must come from another soul.

The first step and the biggest problem one encounters in Meditation is to stay aware. Awareness is the key. It doesn't matter if your mind wanders from the point of concentration as long as you remain aware of the mind wandering. But surprisingly, staying aware is most difficult. The mind just WANDERS AWAY!!!

Pranotthana- preliminary awakening starts from mooladhara and ascends the spinal cord via pingala nadi, only partially purifying the chakras until it reaches the brain where it is usually dispersed.
In this type of awakening the experience of shakti is rarely sustained. However, it does prepare the aspirant for the eventual awakening of Kundalini, which is something altogether different and more powerful.

One finds it difficult to open and balance chakras due to non preparedness towards the consequences of the opening. A proper mindset needs to be developed for balancing and maintaining the chakras which comes with small initial steps in meditation.
