Knee pain often worsens in winter because of shifts in barometric pressure, reduced circulation, and lower activity levels. As temperatures fall, blood vessels narrow, limiting blood flow to the joints and causing stiffness. A decrease in barometric pressure can also make the tissues around the joints expand, putting extra pressure on nerves and triggering discomfort. On top of that, cold weather usually means we move less, which weakens the muscles that support the knee, leading to increased strain and stiffness.
