Noble family having relations with many Royal families of Native States... He is very closely associated with the Gaekwad Royal family of Baroda. He did his basic schooling from M.C. High School-Vadodara and later did his B.E.(Civil), The M.S.University of Baroda. He was throughout a brilliant student and used to play Table Tennis and Cricket. After completing graduation he did specialized training course in Fire Department from Huston, USA. After returning he started his career as Consulting Engineer of All India Institute of Local Self Government. Later in 1976 he joined the institute as Assistant Director and due to his dedication, honesty and very hard work reached to the post of Director General. He retired from the post of Director General in 2015 and was elected to be its President from 2015 till date. Ranjit Chavan is associated with many social activities. He was also Chairman - Vadodara Municipal School Board, Chairman - Standing Committee, Vadorara Municipal Corporation. Mayor of Vadodara for Two terms. He is also State Commissioner - All India Boy Scouts Association and was awarded Medal of Merit in 1983.
