We successfully conducted the Workshop on Custom Design & 3D Printing of Implantable Scaffolds for Orthopedic Applications on 12 March 2026 at the Seminar Hall (O Block), Department of Biosciences & Bioengineering, IIT Guwahati, in collaboration with the Orthotech Research Center, IIT Guwahati. The workshop brought together researchers, students, and professionals to explore the interdisciplinary foundations of next-generation orthopedic implants. The sessions highlighted key aspects, including design principles of porous scaffolds, additive manufacturing approaches for implantable devices, biomechanics of implantable scaffolds, and the regulatory and translational pathways toward clinical and industrial applications. We were privileged to host distinguished speakers Dr. Kaushik Mukherjee (Associate Professor, IIT Delhi), Dr. Simanchal Kar (Assistant Professor, NIT Silchar), and Dr. Nileshkumar Dubey (Clinical Assistant Professor, University of Maryland), who shared valuable insights from both research and clinical perspectives. The workshop also featured discussions and demonstrations on advanced design and manufacturing strategies, providing participants with a deeper understanding of how computational design, biomaterials, and 3D printing technologies are shaping the future of patient-specific orthopedic solutions. This event was jointly organized by ANRF, IIT Guwahati, the Biomechanics and Simulations Lab, and the Orthotech Research Center, fostering collaboration between academia, engineering, and translational research in the field of orthopedic implant innovation.
