Dr Dipika Deka is one of the pioneers in ultrasound and fetal medicine, since the first ultrasound machine was procured by AIIMS, and she was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, AIIMS.
She has been performing ultrasound for congenital malformations, ultrasound guided procedures like amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, cord blood sampling since 1988.
She is an expert in performing fetal therapy like medical treatment, intrauterine fetal blood transfusion (IUT), fetal reduction, fetal shunts. Later she trained and performed fetal endoscopy for twin twin transfusion syndrome ( TTTS), laser, radio frequency ablation, bipolar cord coagulation, etc.

My delightful bonny nephew, miracle of the Lord
I marvelled when I held you, when first we cut the cord
Cousin to my sons, their precious baby brother…
I loved the role I played - Jethai and godmother.

Playing, boxing, romping, as if you were their age
Apple of all our eyes, you were at center stage !
Your visits to our home , were incredibly dear
Why leave us so soon, it’s not at all clear !

Writer, dreamer, healer; you’ve made us so much cry
Our dutiful loyal child, why leave us high and dry ?
You’re surely in a better place,
but too early did depart
May you rest with the angels, you’re forever in my heart.

My nephew Dr Nischal Das, 32 years, my only brother’s only child passed away on 14 th June. My ode to him ❤️
