34 year old patient with right wrist joint swelling.

Ganglion Cyst – Wrist
💡 A ganglion cyst is the most common soft tissue swelling of the wrist, often seen on the back (dorsum) or sometimes the front (volar aspect).

🔬 Clinical features:

Smooth, round/oval swelling near the joint.

Size may fluctuate – increases with activity, decreases with rest.

Usually painless, but can cause aching, stiffness, or tingling if nerves are compressed.

Cosmetic concern is common.

🧪 Pathogenesis:
It arises from herniation or degeneration of joint capsule/tendon sheath, forming a stalk that communicates with the joint. The cyst is filled with thick, gelatinous, mucin-rich fluid.

💊 Treatment:

Observation (many resolve spontaneously).

Aspiration and compression (recurrence possible).

Definitive management: surgical excision including cyst wall and stalk.

It is not always that we get to see architectural details such as stromal invasion in cytologic preparations.
In this case of Ca breast however it is unequivocally evident.
The blue lines point to fibroblasts while yellow indicate malignant cells.
