DOMS, or Delayed-Onset Muscle Soreness, is like that uninvited guest who crashes your fitness party.
It's that post-workout pain you've felt, ranging from muscle tenderness to "ouch, I can't move" levels. π€
π€βBut why does it happen?
Well, DOMS can strike when you've taken a break and jump back into your fitness routine or tried something new and intense.
Those eccentric moves, where your muscles lengthen under tension, are often the culprits. The harder and longer you work out, the more likely DOMS will pay you a visit. πββοΈπ¨β£
π§ͺThe science behind it?
It's a bit of a mystery, but lactate, muscle spasms, inflammation, and muscle damage play roles here.
DOMS can mess with your athletic performance, causing limited motion, reduced shock absorption, and muscle stress. Not cool. π¬β£
πͺπ»So, what's the game plan? Manage DOMS with NSAIDs (if indicated), massages, and low-intensity exercise. Or even better, prevent it by controlling exercise load, staying hydrated, and gradually easing into new routines. πββοΈβ£
Remember, what works for one may not work for another. But with the right knowledge, we can tackle DOMS and keep smashing our fitness goals! π₯πβ£
