Wellness Greetings!
It is December and the end of 2025 already! Has the year just zipped past or have we grown that much older, when time expands according to our priorities and not just the turn of the pages on a calendar. If we keep a calendar at all that is!
In the West, when December settles into a period of pitch blackness contrasted by white snow and biting cold winds, an icy shroud of silence, heaviness all around, December gets "brightened" with what they call an Advent Calendar. Meaning arrival or "adventus", a period of waiting for Christmas and bright lights, candles, gifts and celebrations. This was a period for reflection and stillness too.
Today Advent Calendars in the West which are commercially sold and widely available, hold little windows for each day of the month of December. Each day opens up to little gifts, angels or Bible verses, and a bit of that anticipation to mark the turn of the year. There's nostalgia, warmth and ritual to it all. Be it for kids or adults.
For us here in Bombay, in the presence of smog instead of snow, sudden heat instead of that promised cold wave, we can still keep an Advent Calendar of our very making and meaning.
Each day from the 1st to 31st December can become a day to open windows of stillness.
To look back first and foremost of the year gone by. Okay zipped by.
What worked and did not.
The lessons learnt.
The losses we overcame.
The goodness that somehow squeezed through it all. And when we start listing these little goodies of goodnesses down, there's more than plenty that will pop up.
Each day of this month can hold little rituals of meaning we conjure. Be it lighting a lamp or cooking up a dish. Or finally getting down to creating a daily health routine for ourselves. Done regularly they fall into a practise, a rhythm, which like the seasons, keep us well and spinning. Not to mention- more ready for 2026 too!
Each day of this last month can be a conscious return to being productive in the real, sacred sense. A slowness that depends on contemplation, intention, juiced with purpose and power. It's making time dance to our choice of what we choose to do how and when.
Eating a meal can be that. The act of chewing tasting and full on mastication, of whole ingredients that nourish.
The act of moving, feeling our breath, knowing where its trapped or flowing.
And yes eating and breathing properly may not seem like high productivity targets, yet when done right- it is what tips the balance between Health and illness, nourishment and depletion.

Getting ready for December's Menus and Bookings - and this note too, has given us the time in the THAC KITCHEN to also reflect on the year gone by- be it with Menus that "made it" or some that could have fared better perhaps!
It gave us an opportunity to be more intentional of what dishes we want to serve up as our year end Menus.
We reviewed the new experiments of the year and the ones that we have forgotten to bring on too!
