"Across time, we’ve always met at the table,” says Lao.
Don't really know who Lao was- or when he said this, yet do know that this still holds so solidly true.
For at the table- each of our dining tables, stories, recipes, legacies, memories and flavours, all gather together to culminate in a "taste" that goes beyond the ingredients in the dishes.
This "taste" at the THAC KITCHEN, has been carefully tended to from its very first no-oil-tadka experiments, in the hands of Dr Vijaya Venkat- THACs founder.
Putting theory to practise was the fire that furiously fuelled her very many experiments. Even the flop disasters were khichdi-fied or cutlet-ed into tasty morsels. Bite by bite, camouflaged dishes by showy-presentations, she won her family and friends over with her kitchen innovations.
"Making something out of nothing", was a gift she had...like an Akshaya Patra which magically kept feeding all - and there were many many strangers friends and foes who were won over by the kind of food she made. Different, unique with an undeniably wholesome taste.
Which is what we can call as the THAC CUISINE.
Today- decades down from that little kitchen in Dr Venkat's home- the very same recipes, the kind of ingredients used, the methodology, why even some of the pots, pans and vessels in the current far more -modernised kitchen, all coalesce to create the Menus you eat, 5 days of the week at least.
For some of you, this kind of "cooking" has become an everyday thing - thanks to the principles and concepts she laid down, almost 40 years ago.
So when a box is opened, be it for Lunch or a Snack, it's like each of you are sitting together and meeting across a table, (albeit an invisible one!), with Dr Venkat sitting at its head- sharing and tasting a meal, together.
To us, that's the tastiest kind of meeting/eating -ever!
