It's
The Eastern Mediterranean Region is facing a fast-growing HIV epidemic, yet the HIV response has stagnated in many countries in the Region.
Of the estimated 610 000 people living with HIV (PLHIV) in the Region only 38% have been diagnosed, just 28% are receiving treatment and only 21% have suppressed viral loads.
23 000 deaths in the Region were attributed to HIV-related causes in 2024, an increase of 88% from 2010.
Recent reductions in global funding have disrupted HIV prevention, testing and treatment services across the Region.
Inaction will
🔺increase the number avoidable transmissions and preventable deaths
🔺further delay diagnosis and treatment and strain health system infrastructure
🔺jeopardize regional and global goals to by 2030
To end AIDS, we must:
🔴prioritize access to HIV prevention, testing and treatment for everyone
🔴adopt a primary health care approach and build strong community-based services
🔴adopt innovative strategies to ensure antiretrovirals reach those in most need
🔴empower PLHIV to help shape programmes that meet the challenges they face
