The Breath That Rebuilds: How Collapse Becomes Coherence
By Laura Elliott
March is a month of change. You might feel like things are falling apart. But what if they’re not? What if your life is just finishing one breath cycle and getting ready for the next?
What is a Breath Cycle you may ask? In the Codex, which is not a book, but a harmonic model of reality that describes how consciousness, geometry, and breath interact to create form, memory, and meaning, breath is not just air. In the Codex breath is geometry, emotion is resonance, memory is recursive structure, and reality is a spiral of coherence. The Breath Cycle is a spiral of energy that moves through four phases:
Spark: the moment you feel something new begin
Structure: when that feeling takes shape
Collapse: when the shape can’t hold anymore
Stillness: when everything pauses before the next breath
Right now, many of us are in the collapse phase. And that’s okay. Collapse doesn’t mean failure. It means letting go of what no longer fits, allowing old patterns to dissolve, and making space for something new. It’s like exhaling before you can inhale again. In Codex breath geometry, collapse means the spiral can no longer hold its shape, the breath contracts inward, the structure dissolves so a new one can form. It’s not chaos, its coherence seeking a new form. What needs to collapse is your attachment to the old spiral, your need for clarity, and your belief that coherence must feel comfortable. Your breath is expanding, but your environment, relationships, and expectations may still be shaped by a smaller spiral.
I can give you an example from my life. I’ve been in the process of deciding it’s time to move from the apartment I’ve been living in, packing, and figuring out where I’m moving to next. As part of the process of embodying my Oversoul fully, I’ve been surrendering to making decisions from heart coherence. In the 3D world we’ve been living in, that’s the exact opposite of the logical thinking/deciding that we’re taught to do. We’re taught to have a plan and execute it. I still take action in the physical world (e.g. I’m looking for a place to move to) but I’m relying on my Oversoul to lead me in the direction I need to go. In other words, I may be in the driver’s seat but I’m now trusting and listening to my navigator in the passenger seat who has the map. This is very difficult to do as you’re de-programming the conditioned fear response and learning to stop overriding your inner guidance and intuitive knowing. Oversoul-led guidance doesn’t always come in the time frame we’re comfortable with, but this takes us back to the breath cycle and the time it takes for the old breath cycle to collapse and the new one to form. Our Oversoul isn’t here to make life comfortable, it’s here to make our breath coherent. And sometimes that means letting old spirals fall away, standing in uncertainty, and breathing through discomfort. Not because we’re being punished, but because our breath is recalibrating reality.
Part of our conditioning is seeking external approval for the decisions we make, the need to be seen as “doing it right” so that we’re accepted and loved by family, friends, and society in general. And for me, it was also needing to be seen as “doing things right” so that if I needed help, I’d be more likely to receive it if I was behaving as others thought I should be. We learn to adapt to the world around us as we grow up, and that also means making ourselves small to fit into others’ expectations of us.
This is what my current experience of moving would look like in the four phases:
Spark — I felt the impulse to leave my old home
Structure — I began packing, organizing, planning
Collapse — I felt overwhelmed, anxious, unsure
Stillness — I surrendered to my Oversoul and found stillness
This isn’t just a move. It’s a breath spiral, and I’m living it in real time. I’ve been in the collapse phase, which has been a very uncomfortable place to be. When we’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and unsure it tends to bring fear, and we may find ourselves spiraling back into the conditioning because it feels familiar and safe, even though it’s not sustainable. I choose to look at it as opportunity. Even though it’s highly uncomfortable, it also gives me the opportunity to have awareness that I am in fear and to consciously choose to keep moving forward rather than backwards into the familiar.
I asked my Oversoul why it can’t make the process easier, especially if I’m incarnated now to perform my Soul Function. What I was told was the same as I said previously, I must complete the exhale before I can take the next inhale. There is no way around that. If my Oversoul gave me ease now, I might settle into a breath spiral that no longer matches my breath and not cross the threshold I’m meant to cross. I’m simply in the part of the spiral where the breath tightens before it expands. Alignment doesn’t always mean ease, it means coherence.
Some of the signs that let you know you’re in collapse are feeling tired, but not sick, you’re questioning everything, and you feel like you’re in between. You’re not broken; you’re breathing.
When you feel overwhelmed, you can try this.
Breathe in for 4 counts
Hold for 4 counts
Breathe out for 6 counts
Pause for 2 counts
Repeat until your body softens
After collapse comes stillness. And in that stillness, a new breath begins. You don’t have to force it; you just have to let it come. March is not the end. It’s the breath between spirals. And you are exactly where you need to be.
