💧 During the holidays, the practice may pause.
Waterlines, however, do not.
When the dental unit remains unused for several days, water stagnates inside the tubing.
Stagnation creates ideal conditions for the growth of biofilm, bacteria, and Legionella.
It’s a risk that is often underestimated, yet well documented:
microbial load can increase rapidly during periods of closure, especially in older or rarely used waterlines.
🎄 For this reason, when returning after the holidays many practices carry out:
• extended flushing procedures
• scheduled anti-Legionella treatments
• waterline checks during start-up
Among the most effective measures is the periodic use of broad-spectrum sterilants, designed to remove biofilm without damaging the dental unit’s materials.
One example is R45, a medical device that sterilizes, breaks down biofilm, and cleans in a single step.
This is not a “seasonal issue”: whenever water stagnates, the risk increases.
Preventing biofilm means restarting with a safer environment for both patients and operators.
