Global investment is changing. In flows, in priorities, in the policies that shape it.
At our Florence event, Massimo Meloni of UNCTAD offered a clear-eyed look at where the international investment system is headed, and what that means for territories like Tuscany.
Because attracting the right investment starts with understanding the world it comes from.

At Solvay Chimica Italia, industrial waste doesn't end up discarded, it becomes a resource.
Solvay Chimica Italia, rooted in Rosignano since 1912, is proving it's possible. Through an advanced upgrade of their Solval process, Solvay is tackling the challenge of sodium residues from waste energy treatment, separating exhausted activated carbons and purifying them for reuse.
The goal? A 60% reduction in final waste, with recovered activated carbon reintroduced into the production cycle or used for energy recovery.
Over a century of industry, reimagined through the lens of circular economy.
This is the kind of legacy innovation Invest in Tuscany is proud to support.

From mapping to action: Tuscany's automotive supply chain takes centre stage.
Yesterday, researchers, institutions, and industry leaders gathered at Palazzo Strozzi Sacrati in Florence to present the findings of a major new study on Tuscany's automotive sector, promoted by MOVET, conducted by the University of Pisa in collaboration with the Osservatorio TEA, and funded by Regione Toscana.

The picture is one of profound transformation: technological shifts, evolving regulations, and changing markets are reshaping the supply chain. Yet within that complexity, the research identifies something equally important: real opportunities for growth and investment, for those equipped to seize them.

The message from the room was clear: navigating this transition demands collaboration across industry, academia, and institutions. Tuscany has all three. Where research meets industry, the next chapter of Italian automotive excellence is being written.

Two institutions, one shared vision of excellence.
The Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa and the École Normale Supérieure of Paris have renewed and expanded their cooperation agreement, a partnership rooted in a shared heritage of merit-based selection, research intensity and collegiate life, now extended to 2031.
At the heart of the new agreement: joint research programs, student and faculty exchanges, doctoral co-supervision, and a shared commitment to the EELISA European University Alliance, opening the door to a broader network of institutions and talents across the continent.
Where history meets innovation, the future of European academia takes shape.

What if AI could make our energy infrastructure safer and cleaner?
i-EM, a Tuscany-based company with global reach, is doing exactly that. Through the CARES project, they're deploying artificial intelligence and robotics to monitor industrial plants, detect methane leaks in real time, and protect both the environment and the people working on-site.
Less emissions. Less risk. More precision. More future.

From waste to high-performance materials — this is RE-CARBON.
The Department of Civil and Industrial Engineering of the University of Pisa is working on a pioneering idea: giving a second life to two types of industrial waste — discarded fishing nets made of polyamide and carbon fiber from composite material scraps — to create next-generation, high-performance materials.
The goal is to prove that sustainability and technological excellence can go hand in hand, turning what would otherwise be waste into a resource for advanced industrial applications.
Tuscany, once again, at the forefront of sustainable innovation.

Advancing innovation in the rail sector.
JSW Steel Italy, part of Jindal South West Group, has played a key role in the industrial turnaround of the Piombino site since 2018, delivering consistent positive results.
In collaboration with Arox, Letomec and the University of Pisa, the project introduces an innovative, self-powered sensor for rail corrosion monitoring—enabling a shift from reactive to predictive maintenance.
A concrete step forward in strengthening Tuscany’s position in advanced mobility and industrial innovation.

What if plastic waste could replace coal in industrial processes?
That's exactly what Project FENICE, led by ARCHA srl, is working on — developing a sustainable alternative to mineral black in foundry casting, using recycled plastic waste to cut emissions and reduce dependence on foreign suppliers.
Innovation rooted in Tuscany, built for Europe.
